Guest guest
Welcome, Rose.... and so sorry that your health brings you to this website. I had to leave my drains in until the draining was down to 30 ccs, so it was almost a week. I, had a lumpectomy. Many times the surgeon does not get clear margins and has to go in to make sure they did not leave any tumor. In my case, another tumor was found after the lumpectomy and the recommendation was for a mastectomy. I could have gone in for just another lumpectomy, but luckily I did go for the full mastectomy as more cancer was in the breast. This is not common, many have the additional surgery just to clean the margins and are fine. So, yes, this is common and I'm sure lots of ladies will respond. Barb Michigan Hello Everaone My name is Rose, I'm from Buffalo, NY. I was just diagnosed on Haloween and had a lumpectomy last Wednesday. My question is are the drain tubes suppose to stay in for a week? Also, the doctor called on Friday to let me know I need more surgury. Has anyone else experienced this? Guest guest
Hi Rose, I am Mansure, i was Dx two months ago with lump in both breasts, after sono and mammo, i had lumpectomy and then because the tumors were big(2.5 and 3.5 cm) the doctor suggested mastectomy, but he said i could just remove 1/4 of the breast and then high level radiotherapy instead of mastectomy. so I and my husband preferred mastectomy, bilateral mastectomy. it was done abot 45 days ago, drains were there for a week. and two times after removing drains the liquid was gotten out from under arm! I am fine now. although have some pain underarm and in all hand. but it is normal as they say! and just have to keep on my excercies regularly in order to avoid edema. I am on chemotherapy now. is not that horrible that I thought it was! thanks God! > > Welcome, Rose.... and so sorry that your health brings you to this website. Guest guest
Rose The drains usually stay in for about a couple of weeks, It depends on how much u drain or are not draining. I had mine for a couple of weeks. Get you a some neosporin cream with pain releif it helps. I didnt' like the ointment I preferrred the cream. the ointment can be greasy and stain your clothes and get sticky. the cream aborbs really well and it has a little benifit with pain relief. It can also help with the itching when things start to heal up. As far as more surgery this may be because some of the test came back to show something that might need to be taken care of such as nodes that came back positive. Or it could be something else. the best person to talk to is your doctor. Best of luck to ya. tt. Rose rosemunch@...> wrote: My name is Rose, I'm from Buffalo, NY.
