Guest guest
, Talk to Hobbs at Shackelford County EMS. We just got a new Frazer Type I with a Chevy 3500 that is awesome. We have another one with the offending Ford that's a piece of crap, (not the box, the truck) but everybody loves the Chebby. Guest guest
My City council approved the purchase of a new ambulance Monday, but there are no Ford Chassis available. Seems Ford and International? (or whoever supplies their engines) are feuding and Ford has stopped production of diesel E series chassis. My options:a new 2005 chassis. I have not asked why they still have 2005 chassis. Switch to F450 and shorten my ambulance box and pay more for air ride. Go with a GM van and shorten my ambulance box. Use a GM 4500 series truck and get beat to death in the box and pay more. Wait for Ford to offer the V 10 gas as an ambulance option. Apparently the are testing it now. Wait 2-3 years for Ford to change the E series so the new 6.4 will fit. Guest guest
Frazer has made SUBSTANTIAL improvements in the ride of the 4500. The City of Baytown has 2 (with retrofitted rear suspensions) and one on order with the new suspension. Crews report ride improved 100% without adversely impacting handling. They actually prefer the 4500 as compared to the F450. We bought ours with the 100k mile extended chassis warranty so that our major repair costs are 'fixed' over the front line life of the vehicle. Check the price difference between the F450 and the C4500... there's not that much difference! Larger box. Lower Maintenance Costs. Greater payload. Good Acceleration and Handling. Surprising turning radius. Guest guest
Chevy is the way to go. The Fords were going to cost us more, the fuel more, the service more and a new motor that is unproved. I haven't had much faith in the Fords since they did away with the old 460cu in gas engine. Now that was a work horse of an enging. We did have problems at first with our 4500 ride but did retro fit we have two new chassis coming in any day now with the correct air ride from monroe. They ride about the same as the 3500 series Chevy which we all liked. We have the big box Frazer which is just the right weight for the 3500 or the 4500 chevy. Guest guest
We purchased 2- 2007 GMC4500 Frazer ambulances 8 months ago, for Wise County EMS, and the ride is GREAT. I work a second job and the ambulances I ride there are the 2005 F350 Frazer ambulances and the ride is extremely rough and embarrassing. We often have to apologize to the patients for the ride. Guest guest
We have a 2005 Chevy 3500 with less than 70000 miles. We have had more trouble with that one than some of the older trucks with over 100000 miles. From my expiernce with Chevys and Fords, and the Frazier Box, air bags make all the diffrence in the world. And if you are going through Frazier make sure you get the airbags put on with the mount, cause if you wait till later, they charge almost 4000.00 more.
