Guest guest
ok, maybe thats not what i want to say... i know how it felt when my BP was up and my heat rate was 176, but day to day on all the meds, what is this supposed to feel like? Is it just the palpations? Is it the racing? how about the jumping? or am I just freaking out worring that it is going to happen again? Anyone who wants to answer, I would appreiciate it. Guest guest
Ray - I assume since you are worrying that it's going to happen again, that you are not in afib now? If so, you may be more aware of your heart beating now, whether it's because you are paying more attention, or the medication I don't know. I feel like I can feel every beat and blip of my heart, whereas I never could before. But don't obsess about going back into afib, or on what your heart is doing. You don't need the extra stress that causes. Just watch your ps and qs, try to get rid of stress, sleep properly, eat properly, avoid triggers, and live your life. If you go back into afib, you can deal with it then, but not now.. Guest guest
as far as I know I dont think I am in afib right now. My heart rate feels nice and steady, but i dont know if that is the medicine doing that or not. I guess I am concerned. Other than by being on a monitor how do you *tell* when you are in afib? by taking your heart rate? I guess I need to see what comes from these monitor results. this might sound weird but I want it to show something. I feel like I am going wacky. Outwardly I look fine even when I am feeling *funny*, and when I was taken to the hospital origionally, there was very high BP and HR, now that is under control, lets hope (HAHA) i am not sure what the afib should be feeling like? is it the same? ugghh.. maybe its just time to go to sleep..... Guest guest
Ray, you have some good questions. Some people in AF can feel all the chaotic beating. I can feel all of my chaotic AF runs and skipped beat. My wife on the other hand can not feel hers. In fact she didn't even know she was in AF until it was discovered during a routine physical. I think different people are often wired differently in terms of the sensory nerve distribution in the chest. Incidently my wife is in constant AF and her venticular rate is controlled with a beta blocker and Coumadin, an I am manintained for the most part in NSR with antiarrhymic med. To determine if you are having AF, it can be helpful if you can take your own pulse. Some people check their heart rhythm by buying and using a stethascope to listen to their heart beat. You can always learn to check your pulse by having your nurse show you how. AF is an irregular, irregular rhythm. It changes all the time, and there is no regularity in the timing between beats. Many people also get ectopics which are usually PACs or PVCs. You can often tell that you're having ectopics because with these you have a regular rhythm which is interrupted with possibly an early beat or 2 or 3 and then there is a pause. It is what people often refer to as a skipped beat. Sometimes it is not possible to be sure if one is in AF or having lots or ectopics. If in doubt, assume AF. It is very helpful to have a plan devised in advance with your doc. I have 2 plans. For ectopics or skipped beats I do not need to do anything. My heart is essentially in good shape and the ectopics will not harm me, though they are not pleasant. For AF, my plan is if I have a breakthrough that lasts for an hour or so without reverting to NSR, I take an extra beta blocker and sometimes a Xanax, which often helps me to revert. If my AF continues for over 12 hours, I call the doc to consider coming to the ER to be converted with IV meds or cardioversion. This plan gives me a lot of peace of mind and control. Of course this plan is based on my condition, how well I tolerate AF, my meds, and other factors which are unique to me. The plan between you and your doc to deal with AF breakthough and with ectopics would probably be different. Of course if I should ever experience chest pain, shortness of breath, feel like I am going to feint, or feel unexplained weakness or exhaustion I would do like anyone else should do - call 911. In my 58 years, including 16 with PAF, I have never had to do that. Knock on wood. Ray, I wish you the best and please keep us posted. Thanks, The Halls hall5@...> wrote: as far as I know I dont think I am in afib right now. My heart rate feels nice and steady, but i dont know if that is the medicine doing that or not. Guest guest
I know just how you feel!!!! I have the same questions to ask my doctor when I see him later today. I KNOW when my heart starts flipping and quivvering because I feel it but am I in Afib when it does this? I guess it is, because it feels the same as the day the doc sent me to the hospital but it is not a severe and doesn't last as long. Thank goodness I am learning how not to panic when it happens.
