I have a dentist appointment tomorrow, so I thought now was a good time to

remind everyone to see their dentist at least twice a year.

get your teeth cleaned!!!

Did you know that diabetes can cause teeth to become brittle and your mouth more

prone to infection???? another reason to see the dentist!

I love my dentist!

Judith,

not only that, but the tarter build-up causes inflammation of the gums &

provides happy homes to all kinds of bacteria

those bacteria get into the blood stream because the tissues in the mouth

are so thin, migrate to the heart &

contribute to inflammation of the heart muscle - this can cause heart

attacks - there is a more technical

explanation that my dentist gave me, but this is what I got out of it,

lol..... All that aside, I've had several

root canals that might have been caused by periodontal disease, & if getting

my teeth cleaned twice a

year will prevent another one - yippee.

Also some dental insurance companies will allow more frequent cleaning if

the dentist requests it - well

worth checking into ---

Thanks, Angelia,

I also have neutropenia which leaves me prone to infection so I take

incredible care of my teeth - gums bleed etc. Mine don't :-) I don't go

get my teeth cleaned 2x/yr because I am always worried about the hygeniest

being too rough on my gums and giving me an infections that no one else

would get. So, I love my water pik, my floss, and the

toothbrush/toothpaste.

I have everyone of my own teeth at my age and I'm proud of it! :-)

But thannks for the info. I did not know that teeth become brittle with

diabetes. Another piece of info!

Thanks for the reminder - I have an abscessed tooth.....I need to address

that as well as other dental needs.

Also wanted to report that my new ACI level is 6.2! Down from 8.4 three

months ago - I am so excited! And this through proper diet and exercise!

Mine mentioned that too... however, my insurance won't pay for that much...

only every 6 months, so that's all I do.

If you are so afraid of getting an infection at the dentist you can ask about

taking an antibiotic before going. I take 4 amoxicillin pills before all dental

appointments. I do not take them due to the diabetes though but because I had a

liver transplant and also have no spleen. I am very prone to infections. I see

the dentist every 6 months right now. I haven't seen him since I've ben

diagnosed yet so it will be interesting to see what he has to say when I do. I

LOVE my dentist and totally trust him with my care. I know him well though

becuase I used to take care of his kids.

Good reminders. I made my eye and dental apoinment now for July. It

will be quite a pretty penny since i have no insurance, but it will be

money well spent.....
