Baltimore City fire cadet died this afternoon, after collapsing earlier during a

training exercise in West Baltimore, medical and fire officials said.

, 29, was rushed to land Shock Trauma Center around noon, said

Chief Cartwright, a fire department spokesman.

Two other firefighters were injured when they went to 's aid, he said.

The training exercise involved setting a fire in a three-story vacant rowhouse

on Frederick Avenue and Calverton Road.

was the mother of an 11-year-old son and 8-year-old daughter, Cartwright

said. She joined the firefighter paramedic class in November and was set to

graduate next month.

Mayor Sheila Dixon extended her sympathies to the cadet's family, friends and

colleagues this afternoon.

" The sudden death of one of our Firefighter Paramedic Apprentices is a

tremendous loss for us all, " Dixon said in a statement. " Her spirit of service

and dedication is an example for us to follow. "
