Guest guest
For better or worse, I'll just say that MetroCare is probably the least slimy and most ethical of the private services in Texas. They've always had decent hiring standards and don't seem to be subjected to the " routine compliance audits " that a certain defunct private EMS in East Texas experienced. Here's hoping that Guardian lives up to MetroCare's standards and doesn't end up as a clone of GoldStar... -Wes In a message dated 2/9/2007 3:33:25 PM Central Standard Time, shu_fpvfd@... writes: " MetroCare is turning into another Rural Metro---leaving Texas as fast as they can. " OMG! What Rubbish! I have had the PLEASURE of working along side MetroCare in Bastrop County as one of many county first responders, actually as President of our FRO for the last few years. MetroCare has gone far and above their contract with the county. And let me just add here, their response times were above the minimum requirements of the contract. MetroCare was kind enough to allow Bastrop County First Responders (BCFR) to hold their business and training meetings at their Bastrop facility. When we felt we needed better training and skills testing, MetroCare provided their folks free of charge to come out and help us out. They even brought along their own equipment for us to train with. Want to talk about the AED's that MetroCare has loaned us for use in field? Bastrop County finally had a service that could pay and retain good medics. We no longer fell like a training ground for newbie's. Folks were actually staying and enjoying their work. The trucks were well staffed, stocked and ready to roll and it really hasn't been that uncommon the past four or five months to have about seven units in the county at any given time. Yes, I sing praises for MetroCare, but they are well desired! Just this last December, when we lost a dear friend, first responder, Five Points VFD firefighter and Paramedic, while still on scene devastated by our loss, a MetroCare unit was dispatched make sure we were ok. That act of kindness and compassion didn't go unnoticed by our Fire Chief. I agree the shame is on Bastrop County. MetroCare was caught up in a political battle during the last election in our county. It is indeed our loss. The local paper just announced that Bastrop County Commissioners have agreed to take Guardian EMS of Columbus as its provider for up to a year. We will work with Guardian as we have all the others, but I do question their ability live up to the standard that MetroCare provided for all the reasons Mike has stated. MetroCare, sadly I bid you adieu! Thank you for everything you have done for us in Bastrop County. Bob, Eddie, Janine, Dawn, Manny, , Molly, Dispatch, all the medics out in the trenches… God Speed my friends and God Bless! Sherry Five Points FF/EMT Past President BCFR I agree the shame and blame is on Bastrop County. It is indeed our loss.
