When I put Splenda in something that doesn't have any calories (i.e., iced tea) it has zero impact on my blood sugar, whether I drink a glass or a gallon. The bulk Splenda, which is designed for use in baking, has fillers in it that do contain some carbohydrates. It is not as carb-free as the packet kind - something to be aware of. It makes mine go through the > roof and thats even with using my sliding scale?? > > Amber > Hi Amber, For some people aspartame and Splenda make their numbers go up as if it was normal sugar. I know I cannot use apartame. My old dr never heard of it being a problem but within 6 mos he had many of his diabetic patients mentioning it caused a higher BG for them too. He then just said if it causes a rise just avoid it. For Splenda I seem to be able to use it in a product that is a food but when it is a diet drink it makes me feel real sick (too sweet) and my body seems to react as if it were a regular soft drink. Some people are really sensitive to it. Most are not. Has something to do with how your brain reads it.I have read that the body can be fooled by it, meaning it thinks it is regular sugar. So I guess if you react to it, it might be hard to use a sliding scale. I haven't heard many react to it, but it certainly doesn't mean it doesn't happen either. That would be a tough one to figure out.

Not sure what to say other than I can't drink any of them. I drink water or ice tea/without sweeteners. Got used to it. Not good for blood pressure anyway. Maybe someone else will know. Guest guest
Amber, I guess you are just proving again what is said here again and again: we are all different in our reactions to various foods etc. Splenda is the only sugar substitute I can digest. I have Irritable Bowel Syndrome and the others give me diahrea like you'd never believe and cramps too! I nearly had a cow (imagine that!) when I read on line here that Splenda had carbs! eeeek..... I ran, did not walk, to the cubboard to read the ingredients and it has less than one gram carb per tablespoon. Maybe that is why many of us do well on it? It is a sugar product and since nothing is perfect, this is the one for me I guess. I did read here, though, that someone had decided to cut out all sweetners and food was tasting better so I have also started to only use it when there must be a sweetner in something. Orange pekoe (sp?) tea is tasting very different LOL but the vanilla tea is deeeeeelichious. JUDITH ........How do you keep the blood sugar low if you use splenda?? It makes mine go through the roof and thats even with using my sliding scale?? Guest guest
, I found that I actually prefer koolade to soda! It comes in packets sugar free and I mix it up that way and put it in the fridge. Then when I or someone else wants it we just add whichever sweetner we prefer. JUDITH > Amber, that's the same one that made me feel so sick, too sweet > tasting. The kind that comes in packets is just like aspartame or Equal: no carbs. There are two bulk kinds of Splenda. One is Splenda for baking which does have carbs. The other is regular Splenda. It comes in a 9.7 oz bag, equivalent sweetness to 5 lbs of sugar. Nutritional value Total Carbs less than 1g (same as with the packets). I have been purchasing the bulk for several years because it is cheaper than buying the packets. Splenda without carbs is also packaged in boxes, which is a smaller amount than the bags. hugs Eunice

Guest guest
yeah but Mike you are on insulin she is not the insulin may be helping you. Carbs aren't the only thing that are converted to glucose. For instance protein can be converted to glucose by a process called gluconeogenesis. Also, fat delays the absorption of glucose, so possibly food eaten with fat is impacting this later than one might expect? All I'm trying to say is that you can't assume one product is impacting your blood sugar without looking at everything you are doing.
