I have diabetes, my husband does not. I still buy the same foods that I

bought before being diagnosed. There is always something sweet in our freezer.

I bake cookies, cakes, etc. I buy potato chips. We keep ice cream in the

freezer most of the time. Regular cokes in the refrigerator. There is a bag

of Hersey Kisses on the counter now.

Hubby can't eat most raw veggies, yet he does not tell me not to buy them.

Well, Lainie -- I think I should have more self control, too... but the fact

is, I DON'T.... sometimes I can avoid and resist -- others, no way. SO...

whether I SHOULD have more self control or not, hubby KNOWS I sometimes

don't... he's a chocoholic, as well -- so is my dear daughter -- and SO AM

I... so, here's the deal: When mom is not happy, well, as the saying goes,

'ain't nobody happy' and when mom's numbers are wacky, well, so is she...

since SHE can't seem to quash temptation, the " bad " stuff can't be around!

At the very least, tell your hubby to find an out of sight hiding place for

his stash that you DON'T know about!

As for exercise -- walking is good if you can do it -- I recently had ankle

surgery -- now walking is out for me forever, as the surgery only stabilized

the problem, but won't " cure " it -- try cycling or swimming, or " sit and be

fit " sorts of things!

Best of luck!

My hubby likes his sweets too. In fact there is almost always a bag of lemon and

orange slices sitting by the computer and I must admit I help myself to one or

two once in a while but only when I know my bs is on the loww side and only the

lemon ones. It settles m7y stomach when it's upset. Otherise I will bake cakes

and cookies for him when I can. Haven't been able to in a long time with my bad

back and wearing this brace. Can't bend too good. So he buys cookies in the

store. I can pretty much leave them alone. Lois

Well.... raw veggies are basically healthy for anybody, though. My husband

doesn't eat fruit but he doesn't tell me not to buy it because he knows

fruit is good for us. After being diagnosed, I tried to continue buying

food just as I had before, for awhile, but I guess I just don't have as much

willpower as some people, because I simply wasn't able to keep out of the

bags of snacks, pop-tarts, chips, candy bars, etc. When I had a bad craving

it was just too hard for me if all of these " forbidden " foods were laying

around.

So I had a talk with my husband. He needed to lose some weight anyway and

agreed that it was probably better for us as a family if we got rid of the

junk. (Better for our kids too.) So the agreement we reached is that I

wouldn't ban all foods not on my diet: we do still keep around peanut

butter and jelly, fruits that I don't eat, pasta that I don't eat, etc...

but if he wants to eat unhealthy snacks he keeps them in his car or at his

workplace and then I don't have to deal with being tempted by them.

ly I think it's really unfair to expect someone in a household to just

" be strong " and " have willpower " to avoid all kinds of yummy treats stashed

around the house when 1) that person's health is on the line and 2) those

treats are probably what got them into trouble in the first place.

how right you are. Too bad my dh doesn't agree. I have gotten desperate and

thrown some stuff out but he just goes to the store and gets more hiding it

where I know where it is....

Well, Judith -- if he keeps hiding it where you know where it is.... just

toss it -- eventually he'll find a hiding place you DON'T know...

I know my hubby's hiding places, too. For me, if he's hidden them, I

generally won't trespass in his little space, so I'm OK. It's when I have

stuff in the kitchen that I go ape! I know its psychological, but it works

here!
