I hope to follow your example (I didn't start on meds and have no intentions of going that route unless I for some reason have no choice). But, how long did it take you to figure out what foods you could eat? How long did it take you to get back to life and away from constantly watching what you eat, how much, when, etc? Hi Judith, I was on Glyburide for about 18 months. Even then I was only testing twice a day, sometimes 3 times. Once I started back to losing weight, it did not take long to figure out what I could eat. I have never been one that counted carbs, calories, etc. I tried keeping a journal of my foods, numbers, etc, but it was too stressful). Even though diabetes never controlled my life, I got angry when someone told me I could not eat potatoes or tomatoes. LOL. Only when I was losing weight did I try to watch what I was eating, but I didn't give up all foods. I would just go for more walks. hugs Eunice - Living life to the fullest and enjoying every minute
Guest guest
Thanks, Eunice, I can't go for those walks anymore. strolling around in a power wheel chair doesn't burn up any calories :-( it's fun, but nonproductive for this effort. Strangely enough, all my life keeping a food journal has been stressful to the point I simply couldn't do it. I am actually finding comfort this time around in keeping a food journal and doing the testing. it does aggrevate me to find I have to stay under 25 carbs/meal or whatever and that it doesn't seem to matter if there are days I can exercise (I am not totally confined to a wheel chair) or not BS#-wise, but I guess I'll just have to get use to not eating what makes me happy and deal with it. ho ho, let's see if I ever get mature enough for that. It is really easy to say and even believe but I think if diabetes was my only problem life wouldn't be so frustrating and diabetes would be running my life - but I do have too many other medical issues and not being able to eat in a 'normal' fashion is definitely running my life call it diabetes or not.....
