Guest guest
If you're serious, Stryker wins on all counts. It's more stable, easier to operate, and much, much easier to maintain. Ferno seems to think that one has to be a rocket scientist to be able to service a Ferno, whereas the Stryker people make it easy for you to do most of it for yourself. Ferno is a legend, but only in its own salespeople's minds. Of course, it was once the ONLY choice. What happens when one gets to believing one's publicity is that one stagnates and ceases to be relevant. That's what happened to Ferno. Now it's trying to play " catch up " without much success. I know a system who bought the Ferno battery powered stretcher, but it has to be plugged into a power supply in the truck. The medics forget to pull the plug before removing the stretcher, so the plugs get trashed, and it takes an Act of Congress to get Ferno to work on them. That's the FernoFlexx ICS system. I haven't seen the Ferno Pegasus, which I believe is a European version, but I have seen the prototypes leading up to it, and they were just a rehash of the same old design they have had for the last 60 years. The FernoFlexx Integrated Power System seems to be their best shot, and, as noted above, it leads to lots of problems. In the end, once you buy the equipment it's basically yours. Then you need to look to customer service. Stryker's customer service beats Ferno's every time, at least from what a wide variety of sources tell me. Hey, no EBM here. It's all purely anecdotal, but then the use of a stretcher is only supported by anecdotal data, which is not reliable and should not form the basis for any actions by prehospital providers. There is absolutely NO research showing that patient outcome is in any way improved through the use of an ambulance stretcher. So take it from there. Back to the old Army canvas stretchers. A lot cheaper, easier to maintain, and can be managed by people with a minimum of training. I hope The Gathering of Eagles will address this topic and confirm that there is a complete lack of evidence supporting the use of stretchers. Then we can all forget about Ferno vs. Stryker, get back to the basics that we ought to be doing, and save a lot of money in the process.
