Rita,

Is Kellie feeding Caitlyn by boluses (a " meal " of milk delivered at a certain

rate)? Caitlyn's stomach is smaller than it was before her surgery, because the

Nissen takes up some of the stomach and the balloon on the feeding tube takes

space up as well. Her stomach will eventually grow larger, but in the mean time

she may want to look at delivering smaller boluses at a slower rate or possibly

even ask the dietician about going on a continuous drip for a while.

Also, when Caitlyn retches she should vent the tube to make sure there aren't

any air bubbles. Evan always gags when he needs to be vented.

Hope these suggestions help,

(mom to Evan, 18 months)

When Cai is having trouble with his stomach we stop the milk and just

give him fennel tea extra water and some special eletrolite drink for

babies (think its called GIS ). We have had to do this about three times

in the last year. It is important that the fluids are kept up. Then if

she gets better maybe reintroduce the milk slowly.

as always best to ask your doctor though.
