Guest guest
Hello everybody!! Long time since last I posted but I don't have easy access to Internet at the moment.. Hope this message finds you all and your little ones thriving! My Little Warrior Aidan's getting bigger and bolder ;o) and in April will be already 2 years-old! (Me, I feel 10 years older, though) Although I know for a fact this matter about FEEDING ISSUES has been discussed before, after several tries I couldn't really find the proper answer I was looking for so excuse me for bringing up this subject again.. Aidan does not allow ANYTHING in his mouth except purees, milk given through a special tit.. and his thumb (only when he goes to sleep). He gags with any lump or cram in his food (even vomits!) and does not even TOUCH (not to mention taste!) any food: no bread, biscuit, banana, cheese.. NOTHING. Nothing whatsoever. He does not want to touch ANY food (not even lollypops.. in their original wrap!) or any FLUFFY TOY and really makes him upset when you put them too close to him. Moreover, he does not drink anything but milk... NO WATER!!(CAn you believe this??), juice of any kind or flavour, or any other kind of drink. Of course, we're still trying everyday putting soft finger food at his reach to see if any day now the miracle occurs and he goes for it.. but I think I remember some of you had some guidelines that maybe could help us to speed up this very very slow process.. and, anyway, ANY SUGGESTION OR EXPERIENCE RELATED IS MORE THAN WELCOME.. ANYTIME!! I'm so glad we have you guys.. 'cause somehow between all we can provide some " light " with our own experiences to those (like myself now) that might feel a bit lost when going through this CHARGE-land.. A big hug from rainy Spain.. , Scob & Aidan xxxx
Guest guest
Hi Pat, I just came searching for you on the list, because I emailed your personal account and didn't hear back. I haven't been on the list for a while (back to work full time)--but knew I would find you here! So, regarding Aidan's food issues: I remember specifically at the CHARGE conference a speaker from Talk Tools--and she was fantastic. She focused on increasing stimulation around the mouth to help with the situation you are talking about. Things like stimulating the mouth area with a toothbrush, etc, just to decrease the sensitvity. You can slowly build up tolerance for things in the mouth, and only then, in her estimation can you move on to actually chewing and swallowing. These were steps vital in moving toward appropriate jaw strength and tongue movement for speech development. I purchased many of the items from the Talk Tools catalog and they were great for Carmen (especially the Chew Tubes). You can find them at www.talktools.net The focus is on speech, but the solutions relate to the issues you are experiencing and it all comes down to over or under sensitivity to oral stimulation. Good luck!!! I hope this helps. If you didn't get my email--I need your address again (and your home adress, too)--I still have your and Aidan's little goodies to mail. I'd also like some updates on your little Warrior. We think of him so often. Take care!
