Guest guest
I had a decent lunch - hooray! Wasn't too sure that was going to happen but I did. It had more calories than I really wanted but it was a healthy lunch and only had 16 carbs which is good :-) :-) desperate: for the first time I mixed up a concoction (sp?) of a tall glass of seltzer, a T of cocoa (3g carb) and all the splenda it needed to make it taste like chocolate should. sigh.... what a relief after all these months staying away from it. Now there is just 'dinner' and whatever I have late tonight when dh eats his dinner out. but I'm smiling: Judith ---------- No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Free Edition. Guest guest
Judith: I've scanned through your posts -- first, I'm so glad you're not quite so down! Also, I noted in an earlier post that you are eating separately from your spouse -- may I ask why? This last round for me, I sat my family down and explained that eating as we had been would eventually kill me. That I did not currently have the willpower to avoid foods that will certainly cause me problems, therefore, they could not be in the house, additionally, I did not think it was fair to expect me to cook meals that I would not be able to eat when the food I need to eat is healthy for ALL of us. Hubby had no problems with this -- our daughter, who balked slightly, and is supremely picky, begrudgingly agreed. Our meals are eaten together, everyone eats what mom can eat. I try to make appealing, low-carb meals. I have discovered that nearly everything I fix is appreciated -- the one notable exception being asparagus... I will eat it, but am not overly fond of it, and neither hubby or daughter like it AT ALL -- they both ate it the day I fixed it, but BOTH asked never to see it again! ;OD It can be overwhelming trying to get the bg where it belongs. As I have been reminded many, many times, you have to just go one step at a time. Keep testing -- it's a great motivator! As to your chocolate seltzer -- I am very happy you've found a suitable substitute for chocolate -- I just can't get behind carbonated cocoa! ;oD Best of luck! C got desperate LOL I had a decent lunch - hooray! Wasn't too sure that was going to happen but I did. Guest guest
Hi , Too much going on in my life and much of it emotional garbage because of my disabilities and some people being less than decent about things. Anyway, here goes an answer to your question(s): I decided for today that I wouldn't be so strict with food and testing (thank you Eunice) because of these bunch of people whose dog agility trial I entered my Border Collie Service Dog in this weekend. He's also great fun at agility and I don't see why we shouldn't have fun too. (They tell me I can't do it because I'm disabled. Harrumph!) Anyway, I'm stressed out over that and finally realized it so I am taking today off! :-) from everything except making strawberry dream with peaches and tuna salad and stuff to eat tomorrow and Sunday at the dog trial. Other than that I am playing and lying down. Weather here is yucky and the expression under the weather is a real one! My husband and I have started eating separately mainly by accident, not by decision. At first it had to do with his work hours. Then when he retired it had to do with his suddenly not particularly liking the way I cooked. He is a marvelous cook and loves spices and sauces and I don't. So we'd either make our food separately and eat together or whenever we were hungry apart. Then when I was dxed with diabetes, my nutritionist and I started finding foods and then times to eat which certainly don't coincide with his taking meds and seemingly eating whatever he wants whenever he wants. So that is how that happened. We do often have chinese take out and go out to dinner where we can order what we like and then we eat together. I don't have that will power you mentioned either and I keep telling myself he has the right to eat what and when he wants whether or not I'm around but I finally found myself this past week telling him to stop eating the peppermint after dinner candy at the restaurant when we got back in the car because it was making me terribly uncomfortable smelling what I couldn't eat. I don't remember if he just chewed quickly and swollowed or threw it out the window but the smell went away and I stuck up for myself that night. He just doesn't care about not bringing into the house what I can't eat. Tough on me and to some point I do agree. he should be able to eat what he wants even if he shouldn't. His decision, not mine. I have enough on my plate (pardon the pun) deciding what I will eat. I am a chocoholic. If all I can have is splenda/cocoa drink I'll take it LOL.... Guest guest
Judith! I hear the choc-aholic - MEEEEE TOOOOOO! Like I said, if you've found a suitable substitute, more power to you! When I'm having a hard time with willpower I tell my family. If they choose to bring things I can't resist home.... I THROW IT IN THE GARBAGE. I just made it very clear that I would do that, not to precipitate a fight, but to protect myself - it's never been a problem. I also spend a lot of time telling myself that, even if a truckload of Milky Ways was dumped on the doorstep, IT IS MY CHOICE as to whether I eat them all, or not! You'll find your stride, Judith. You're doing quite well! Take Care C Re: got desperate LOL Hi , Too much going on in my life and much of it emotional garbage because of my disabilities and some people being less than decent about things. I try to plan so I can have 1 or 2 Murray's Sugar Free Cookies (the ones that look like Oreo's). 3 cookies are 18g of carbs with 6g of sugar alcohol (so 12g net carbs). So one or two is a nice treat at night (especially with a cup of tea). Mike

Guest guest
Now, THAT's funny! I know my hubby would have a hemorrhage if I tossed goodies -- that being said, he also KNOWS I WILL do it. I am fortunate in that for the most part my family is pretty considerate -- especially now when I'm having such a hard time getting my numbers down (still ranging from 120-150, even fasting and in spite of 1,000 mg metformin) -- but my daughter did make a cake to take to school a month or so -- CHOCOLATE -- and she did a BEAUTIFUL job -- there is sat, on my counter, in all it's chocolate glory -- she was running late, so MOM had to frost it -- and, gulp, I did... didn't even lick the smidge off my finger.... rinsed the knife, and tossed the can in the trash...... good for me.... and off to school it went... whew! I'm pretty lucky that they are really understanding how hard that stuff is for me now. It wasn't really bad in the beginning -- I was diet and exercise controlled with an HbA1C of 5.3 for several years and could manage quite well. It makes sort of a chocolate pudding like thing, but it's very lo-carb. Molly
Guest guest
I'd just be a dead person. I woke up from a nap this afternoon and in my 1/2 sleep ate 2 oz cashew nuts, and 4T cool whip light. I litterally jumped out of my wheel chair (!) ran (another !) outside to move my dog's agility jumps and worked with him a good 20 minutes after all that activity moving jumps around on foot. So someone tell me why THIS time my body decided it was exercise an not stress and an hour later my blood sugars were wunnerful! I will be taking it again in a few minutes which makes it 2 hrs after the major wrong eating event. gads! cheech. oh well, JUDITH > Now, THAT's funny! Guest guest
Judith... because the body just " knows " ! ;oD After having a nap, you were probably more relaxed, hence, the body didn't interpret the activity as stress..... just a guess.... Glad your numbers were wunnerful! I'm checking mine in a few minutes -- I went and mowed the lawn -- that may not seem spectacular -- but, you see, I DO NOT MOW -- it's the one thing that I've steadfastly refused to do all of my life -- four brothers -- me being the oldest GIRL -- so laundry, dishes, cleaning, meals, etc. were always my domain -- mowing was the ONE thing I wasn't expected to do... ;oD So, what is going on with my sudden desire to more the stupid grass is beyond me... but, there you go... I guess it's like strawberries -- never really cared for them before I was diagnosed... then, shortly after, poof, crave the stupid things and eat them nearly every day... fortunately, they don't cause many problems with my bg.... Have a great day! C Re: got desperate LOL I'd just be a dead person. I woke up from a nap this afternoon and in my 1/2 sleep ate 2 oz cashew nuts, and 4T cool whip light.
