---Wellbutrin is the same drug as Zyban. Zyban is the major stop

smoking drug.

ette, I hope your friend has a good PCP for advice. And I hope she is a

member of several

lists like this, and maybe some support groups in her area. YOU CANNOT DO THIS

ALONE! She wants

to stop smoking? Would she get the Wellbutrin from a doctor? The doctor can tell

her if a

time-release drug is of any use to us, which I think it is NOT.

Need advice for a friend....

My friend had a GB 11/01 and didn't get anything from the

surgeon on what to do or what not to do. Well she has been

a smoker for many years and want desperately to stop.

Question:

Is it safe to the pouch to take " Wellbuterin " It is a time

release pill to help in the aid to stop smoking???

Thank You and Hugs!

Yikes! Lynn, I got different info about the Welbutin - are you taking the

time-released kind? I

was told it wouldn't be very effective in the pouch-intestine setup we have now.

Is there some sort of do's and don'ts list of medication to avoid after GBS?

I think I need to be more educated about this, because a primary care

physician's wont always know. I also worry about having to take a pill and

having it get stuck. I will be 5 weeks post op on Friday

not all wellbutrin is time released, some is, some isn't. But let your friend

know that smoking WILL create problems eventually. Have her contact her pcp for

help. I can't believe her surgeon even did the surgery with her smoking. I had

to promise to quit 6weeks preop and signed an agreement NEVER to smoke again.

Well I lied and had my last cig the night before sugery, but I have not had ONE

since! almost 6months! yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Time release stuff isn't supposed to work as well for us. I've taken like the

12 hours cold medicines, and they only seem to work for about 8 hours or so.

You may not get the full potential of your medication if it is time released.

But for some, they manage OK with it anyways.

The most important thing to remember is never anything that says it could cause

stomach upset which means NO Nsaids. Avoid the time release formulas if you can

because they are usually more expensive, and why pay more, if you're not gonna

get the benefits of the time-release formula anyway? If you go to the files

section of the web site, there is a list of good meds and bad meds for us.
