Guest guest Posted May 29, 2006 Report Share Posted May 29, 2006 Thanks marlene, I just came back from the bookstore and got myself a book called:WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW TO KEEP DIABETES AWAY by GRETCHEN BECKER It looks good, the one things already she said is to get a meter, something I asked my doctor about on friday, I said it seemed silly to wait til I have diabetis to get one, he luckily agreed but said he had to write me up as a diabetic to have it covered?? You might want to call your insurance company to find out for sure whether you have to be diagnosed as diabetic before they will cover a blood sugar meter. A lot of insurance companies (mine included) will cover a meter and strips even if you haven't been officially diagnosed. And, if you are diagnosed, you may get hit with pre-existing condition clauses if you need to switch insurance in the future, so it may be in your interest to put that off as long as possible. But you should ask your insurance company these questions to make sure. (If you have an insurance card their contact number is probably on the back.)
