afib and enlarged atria

Hi,

Went to cardiologist yesterday for 6 mnth check up. Had ultrasound

and ekg. Also had warfarin level check. Was told that everything

looked fine. Doc told me that the atria is slightly enlarged and

that is not unusual in a chronic afib patient (was never called

chronic afib before) and that I had a leaky valve but nothing was

bad and this is really the best he has seen me since pacer insert 2

yrs ago and av node ablation will be 2 yrs in Sept.I am on warfarin,

only medication heart related. On hyperthyroid meds and a

little " happy pill " .

I am in almost constant afib (between 95% & 98%) most of the time

although I very rarely can tell. The av node ablation took care of

that.

I asked dr about enlargement and leaky valve and he said that is

not unusual to see these things with someone that is almost constant

as I am in afib.

My question is that is there anyone out there that has chronic

afib and a leaky valve? Would like to compare notes.

There have been some rough times since the insertion of the

pacemaker but not near as horrible as it was before the implant. I

actually feel that I came very close twice to meeting my maker.

Since the av node ablation things have been even better.

Now I have to watch how I use my arms. If I have to much movement

especially overhead, I will get extremely tired quickly, also have

shortness of breath and a weird feeling in my chest. Other than

that, things really not bad. I stopped working about 6 months ago

and maybe that has helped out a lot. Not near under so much stress.

Glad to hear from anyone,

Thanks

Carolyn

Hi Carolyn

I have a pacemaker fitted, I am still in paroxysmal Afib at present and

am being referred to an EP as I have not had any success with the meds

so far. I am not sure about having an av node ablation because I don't

want to be left pacemaker dependant. I just feel that is what they will

suggest as they would consider the job half done and I am not sure about

being left with chronic afib.

I had an echo done recently which showed that I have an enlarged atrium

also. At the moment I don't want to make any decisions that could ruin

any chances that the afib could be cured. I think that if I had an av

node ablation that will be it.
