Guest guest
You're really clever. I searched for pay rates in Texas. Hmmmm.. surprisingly if you don't live in a major Texas city, they were absolutely nothing to brag about. If you do live in a major city, the cost of living is double that our small community. Let's see. yep, the EMT's are all still poor no matter were they live. Ardmore is a nice small community, in which people can still afford to live. $12.00/hr here is certainly not hero pay, but it is average for this field. Comparing the cost of living in, let's say Dallas, compared to Ardmore. duhhhh you would have to make 3X the pay our people do to live in the same middle income circumstances. Is anyone on this group ever courteous or supportive of each other, or is it your group's goal to belittle and run people down? Guest guest
You are 100% correct Doc. It kinda like Brownsville and the mexican city across its border. I worked in Port Arthur during high school and had to take Cajun French to survive in the Texas town. Guest guest
With all respect intended, EMS tends to be a coarse profession and the humor quotient doesn't always translate well over the 'net. Additionally, the $0.10/hour raise each year was a bit odd. Couple that with the Texas/Oklahoma rivalry, and well, 'net sarcasm pops up. We make fun of other Texans too, if it makes you feel any better. And I tend not to take much seriously myself. Hence my comment last night of <INSERT OKLAHOMA JOKE HERE>. If you were offended over that, stick around. I'm probably one of the " nice " jokers around here. :-) -Wes Ogilvie, MPA, JD, EMT Austin, Texas P.S. -- I visited www.hargis.info I've never met a paramedic who's running for President of the United States. What's your stance on a Federal EMS agency? Re: JOB Openings for Paramedics You're welcome - thanks for your disrespectful pay scale. Guest guest
And just wait until you see what they do to the few of us from Louisiana. Despite the occasional (mostly unintentional) offense this is really a good group to interact with. If we didn't care about our profession we wouldn't be here. Y'all Texans just can't help defending your positions no matter how wrong y'all are. LOL!!! AJL ________________________________ From: texasems-l [mailto:texasems-l ] On Behalf Of ExLngHrn@... Guest guest
Hey Bob, don't take it personal. It is common (sadly) to see rural providers get lambasted when posting job opportunities due to available wages. I looked through your site. Ardmore is very pretty country, as I know from visiting many times. In the interest of full disclosure, I'm an Okie - born & bred (GO SOONERS!). I wanted to ask about average yearly salary. Assuming you pay standard overtime associated with 24 on/48 off, the hourly rates you posted would equate to approximately $38,000 to $41,000 annual salary, yes? Not to bad for a start, not at all. If I were looking to move, I would have already called you. Thanks for posting. Sudik LP, supervisor Calhoun County EMS ---- Original Message ----- From: Bob W.
