Guest guest
OK this one is easy, clean out those old closets and support the troops. Oh and as an aside stupid stuff like this pisses me off if the troops need something that won't burn why do we need to do this to get it to them. Another set of letters to my Congressman and senators I guess? Distribute as needed as widely as possible. Taken off the TSL (verbatim). My name is Capt. Jock of Benton County Fire District 1. I am sending this appeal of assistance to the Fire Service family on behalf of Major A Niesen . Dave is a Firefighter with our department and is currently serving in Fallujah, Iraq. Recently I received and e-mail from Dave inquiring if our department had any excess nomex hoods that we could spare and send to him. His e-mail is as follows (edited due to length of original message): " I've run across a need here that I wanted to run past you. The weather has gotten rather chilly here (40 degrees over night) and all of the cold weather gear the Army is issuing now is all moisture wicking synthetic fibers that me lt to your skin when they burn. Since some of the hits cause vehicles to burn, there is a reasonable chance that soldiers may have to extricate themselves or get rescued from a burning vehicle. Therefore, synthetics are a really bad choice. Does BCFD#1 have any light weight nomex hoods that aren't getting used anymore or are past their life span that we could distribute to soldiers here that would provide both warmth and fire protection? Niesen MAJ A (GCE TF321EN S-3 OIC) " My department and some of the surrounding departments sent what we could spare, but it wasn't too many (couple of dozen). Dave stated that there are 750 personnel in his unit, of those about 500 are active operational personnel. My goal is to facilitate the collection and distribution of as many hoods as possible to Major Niesen. Dave has already distributed the hoods we sent him. Can you help? I, and the troops, would be thrilled if every department that receives this request could send just ONE (1) nomex hood. One hood means that one soldier is better protected. BCFD1 will function as the collection location and will be shipping the hoods to Dave and his troops. If you can help please send the hoods to: Benton County Fire District 1 c/o Capt. Jock 144610 E.
