Guest guest
IAFC MEMBER ALERT: FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contact: IAFC Government Relations Department 703/273-0911 • _www.iafc.org_ (http://www.iafc.org/) NPSTC Seeks Public Recommendations on NCC Common Nomenclature Standard The IAFC is pleased to provide the following information on submitting recommendations for the NCC common nomenclature standard. Note: January 15, 2007, is the deadline to submit recommendations for consideration at the February forum. Fairfax, Va., Dec. 29, 2006... The National Public Safety Telecommunications Council (NPSTC) is requesting alternate recommendations on the common interoperability channel nomenclature scheme developed by the FCC’s Public Safety National Coordinating Committee (NCC). NPSTC is providing the public safety community the opportunity to submit alternate recommendations to update the NCC recommended channel-naming scheme and will host a Public Forum on Standard Channel Naming Nomenclature for Public Safety Voice Interoperability Channels in Orlando, Fla., on February 5. NPSTC believes the lack of a common nomenclature and immediate communications capability is a significant impediment to public safety’s ability to respond to multi-agency incidents and that a common nomenclature will make a tangible difference in public safety interoperability. NPSTC recognizes there is some confusion and dissent on the proposed NCC common nomenclature and encourages open discussion and alternate recommendations from public safety entities to develop understanding and a national consensus. Visit _www.npstc.org_ (http://www.npstc.org/) for complete details on how to submit recommendations. You may participate online, in person or via teleconference. Submissions must be made on the template provided on the NPSTC website. The deadline for submissions to be considered at this forum is January 15. Final review of these comments will take place at the NPSTC Common Nomenclature Meeting. Please visit NPSTC’s Meeting Page at _www.npstc.org/meetings.jsp_ (http://www.npstc.org/meetings.jsp) for more information on the location and times of this meeting and the quarterly governing board meeting. The NPSTC governing board will conduct its quarterly meetings on February 6 and 7. All meetings are open to the public. -end- Louis N.
