Guest guest
Hello, I am Raju 27 yrs old, I came to know that I have diabetes since 3 months, now the BG levels are ok infact too low 78 & 84, as i am doing lot of excersise and simultaneous taking insulin (of 10 & 8 units). Can anybody suggest me whether too much of excersise is harmful, and also i want to know what are the general symptoms of low blood sugar. Thanks Raju.. --------------------------------- Do you have a question on a topic you cant find an Answer to. Try Yahoo! Answers India Get the all new Yahoo! Guest guest
Hi Raju, I have found that walking one half mile lowers my BG levels 50 points! I usually walk soon after I have eaten so when the BG drops I can do okay. Experiment with your type of exercise by taking your BG reading before and after and work out a formula so to speak. I can tell my BG is too low when I have difficulty seeing and feel weak. Good luck and don't give up!! Your body may feel like they are too low right now because you were higher and it takes a bit to get used to functioning on a lower number. Eventually the more you are at those numbers the more they will feel normal. I feel my best in the 80's. I used to run in the 200's and it took quite a while not to have hypo symptoms at lower numbers but now my body is quite used to it and in fact feel worse if I went higher. Normal ranges are from 70-100. Anything below 70 is considered a hypo. The only way too much exercise would be harmful is since you are on insulin you overdo it and go too low. This is why you probably should check your numbers before exercise to make sure you are not too low before starting. Then you can check afterwards to see what it does to you. You won't have to do that forever but to give you an idea how quickly your body responds to exercise. You might end up having to eat a small snack before exercise if too long after a meal. It's just something you have to experiment with. Another thing that happened to me is that when I increased my exercise I was able to get off insulin. I was on it for 6 mos. So rather than eat more and exercise less my dr let let me adjust that amounts lower. You might want to keep that in mind as a future goal if you have problems with lows. Check with your dr and keep track of BG numbers so that you can both determine if you need any changes in amounts of insulin doses. Just because you start on insulin doesn't always mean you will remain on it. Also depends on whether or not you are Type 1 or 2. If you are overweight exercise helps with insulin resistance. Any weight you lose will help your body function better. What type of insulin on you on? are you Type 2? Here's a link which can tell you all about hypos and low blood sugar how to treat it. I've printed out just the general list from this site but you will want to go to this link and read more of exact treatment and info regarding it. Did you have any diabetes education or told how to treat a hypo? Be aware that sometimes people will have similiar symptoms when high or actually when a huge drop occurs. This is why they have people check every 15 mins to determine if a true low. When you check and it seems normal checks again as it can drop fast. http://www.diabetes.org/type-2-diabetes/hypoglycemia.jsp The symptoms of hypoglycemia include: * Shakiness * Dizziness * Sweating * Hunger * Headache * Pale skin color * Sudden moodiness or behavior changes, such as crying for no apparent reason * Clumsy or jerky movements * Seizure * Difficulty paying attention, or confusion * Tingling sensations around the mouth
Guest guest
Too much exercise is not harmful but using too much insulin is. Sweating, dizziness, shaking, blurred vision are all symptoms of a hypo. Always carry a let-out like glucose tablets and learn to regulate your medication around what you eat and how you exercise. If you haven't done so already then go to a see a diabetes educator and never hesitate to ask questions. The more you know, the easier it will be to control. Take care. With CGM you will be able to see EXACTLY how exercise affects your Bg. I am using the Dexcom, and it is eye opening! Good Luck!

The sensor transmits a glucose reading to a receiver every 1-5 minutes, depending on the device, and it is displayed for you on its screen. Go to dexcom.com to see their device. It was FDA approved recently. Hope this helps.
