Hey everyone. I am having surgery on April 11th. I am VERY excited to get

on with it! My only fear is blood clots. I have really bad vericose veins

behind my knees, and I was wondering if this put me at greater risk?? Should

there be something done about them before surgery? I am not talking 'spider

veins'...mine are fat and blue.

Thanks for your help!

SURE! That would be great!

Here is a refresher about me. I am 39 years old. I have a wonderfull

extremely supportive husband and five great kids! I have been researching

and waiting for this for about 2 years! I am VERY excited to get on with it!

I feel very confident in my Surgeon. His name is Coirin. He is

here in my home town of Manteca California. I will be having surgery on

April 11th at 1:30 p.m. I am very happy my parents will be coming from out

of state to be with me. That makes me feel so much better!

I have learned so much from you all. I know I will be able to be

succesfull with all of your help and information!

Thank so much...

Dear Terri,

I took heparin shots before and after surgery to prevent blood clots.

My hospital bed had inflatable stockings that I wore all the time for my four

day stay. They had velcro closing strips so they were easy to put on and

take off.

Take good care and God bless you richly.

Love,

Trace

Thanks trace. I was wondering if having the vericose veins would pose a

higher risk of blood clots??

Thanks for your reply. I will just make sure I mention it to the Dr. before

surgery day.

I also have bad veins. My doctor sent me to a vascular specialist. I had a

veinus Doppler and everything was ok. After surgery, they put things on your

legs to keep them circulating. Also after surgery, while I was in the hospital,

they again checked my leg veins. If you have a good surgeon, he will be on top

of everything. Good Luck!

If you tell both the surgeon and anesthesiologist, they can make whatever

adjustment need to be

made. Just make sure that everyone knows...

Dear Terri,

I don't have varicose veins but I have had DVT (deep vein thrombosis)

-- blood clots in the deep veins of the leg.

I developed DVT after my third pregnancy and an incredibly traumatic

labor. Tess was 11 pounds and I delivered her naturally, OUCH.

I wish I had more information about varicose veins but I'm sorry I

don't. If you're worried about them as I was very worried about reoccurring

blood clots with my surgery, talk to your surgeon and tell him what your

fears are. Ask him/her how he/she will help you with this problem.

God bless you and take good care.

WOW! That is amazing!

What did the Doc do for your DVT?

I will make sure I discuss this with my surgeon!

Thanks for the advice! I hope Tess is still healthy and happy! ; )
