Guest guest
First I would argue that it was not the hoax that caused harm, but rather the people's perception that they had done something worthy of being placed on this " list " that caused harm. What did they do? Well, if they had done nothing prior, then 1) They are not an EMS director, or 2) They are not administrators 3) And, they were not assigned a user name or password Why were they trying to access a website they were not authorized to use (and they had to try three times). Why is so easy to find a lawyer to help us blame someone else when we try to break the rules and fail. This " Perception is Truth " attitude may ruin " Freedom of Speech " . I'll give an example that is more personal to me. My co-worker sent me an e-mail telling me to stop my offensive language immediately or she would report me to my boss. She sited my offensive language as 1) She overheard me telling another coworker that " I wash my balls every chance I get " . 2) She walked in when I was talking with another coworker when I said, " I don't think <plaintiff> is too bright. " I took this e-mail to my boss because I perceived it as threatening. Now during the three weeks of hearings (because they perceived that I was creating a " Hostile Work Environment " ) it was learned that the " ball washing " comment was in reference to use of the ball washers at the golf course, and the " not to bright " comment was in reference to a picture of <plaintiff> were my coworker said she didn't like the picture because <plaintiff> is too bright. I responded as listed above. The result of the hearing was that because <plaintiff> perceived this language as " offensive " , I (and only I) was not allowed to discuss anything except work while at work. In my opinion, lawyers are the second lowest life form, led only by those who seek their counsel. These are the same low life's that will sue a family on behalf of a criminal because he twisted his ankle while breaking into their house. (Now, will any of you low life's' out there represent me when the other low life's' try to sue me?) Darrell > > Yes. I can tell you specifically some people who were harmed by the " hoax. Guest guest
I'm glad that you live such a blameless life that you'll never be falsely accused of anything at all. After all, you wouldn't want to have to be the lowest form of life by hiring a lawyer, would you? I've typically found that that the so-called lowest forms of life who hire lawyers are usually self-righteous jackasses who are arrogantly convinced of their own moral superiority, much like a televangelist getting caught with a male escort and methamphetamine. Granted, we all need to take a joke, but I'd also remind the conservatives and libertarians who bash lawyers that lawyers are our first line of defense against a government willing to take away our rights. Yeah, I'm damned proud to be a lawyer AND a Texas EMS professional. -Wes Ogilvie, MPA, JD, EMT-B Attorney at Law/EMT/Paramedic Student Austin, Texas In a message dated 11/7/2006 5:22:03 PM Central Standard Time, darrellwilson@... writes: First I would argue that it was not the hoax that caused harm, but rather the people's perception that they had done something worthy of being placed on this " list " that caused harm. Guest guest
Go Wes! But, to play devil's advocate, you say that lawyers protect us from government? Are not the majority of State and Federal level politicians lawyers (at some point or other)??? Get out your soap box now. Stay well. HEY NOW! Leave us Libertarians out of this! We believe in anyone's right to sue, as long as it's not us being sued! Mike
