Guest guest
Deaf-Blindness " A Real Vision " Upcoming Conference on February 22, 2007 at the Virginia Air and Space Museum Newport News, Virginia 8:30 a.m – 3 p.m. Deaf-blindness has a devastating and challenging effect on both the child and his/her family. The relationship between a child with deaf-blindness and his/her parents can be stressful and the bonding that is so important for normal development, may be impaired. Many children with deaf-blindness are initially unresponsive to their parents and interaction with this are difficult and frustrating. Parents may be frustrated by the lack of ability to communicate with their child. There are four families that have expressed an interest in providing training about the understanding of deaf-blindness and its impact on the family. Included in this training, these families are specifically interested in the roles and responsibilities of the intervener. The families want to broaden awareness and provide a true understanding of deaf-blindness to interested parties. Participants will leave with a renewed sense of hope and empowerment enabling them to move forward with their lives and advocacy for their families. Here are just a few of the guest speakers: • Mr. Ralph B. Warner III with the National Resource Center for Deaf-Blindness • Virginia Department of Special Education Dispute Resolutions and Administrative Services – Division and Student Services will discuss: Special Education, Regulations and Revision Process • Dr. who has worked with Deaf-Blindness for over 35 years. There will also be exhibitors from other organizations to share additional resources. Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. with continental breakfast and lunch at 12 p.m. Childcare will not be provided.
