Guest guest
My daughter and I both have diabetes (she is 4yrs old with type 1 & I have type 2)We both were diagnosed about 6-7 months ago. I keep hearing about people using thier insulin way past the 28-30 days after it has been opened. A friend of ours offered us some of her extra bottles of novolog since she never uses all that she gets every month. I couldn't understand how she had so many bottles stocked up in the fridge until she told me that she uses so little that she uses the same bottle sometimes for 3 months. Since she has trouble regulating her blood sugars all the time, I'm wondering if it is because she is using that insulin way beyond when she should be tossing it. She said that Lantus has to be used within 28 days of opening. The others (like R and NPH) can be used until the expiration date on the bottle. So I would guess that 3 months is well within your friends 'safe' zone for using the insulin. (Especially if they are kept cool after opening). Guest guest
I use Levimir which should stored between 5 and 8C (41 and 46F) and then it can be used for up to 6 weeks (42 days) when kept at an ambient temperature no greater than 30C (86F) I believe that the same rules apply to Lantus. Take care. Barry UK > > I talked to my pharmacist about this.
