Guest guest
Maybe this is something that Texas should look at. NREMT seems to be more problems than it is worth. Most people that I have talked with, don't want to keep their NR anyway, once they find out that it is a pain to keep up. While their Texas cert is easy to obtain CE for and keep up. Guest guest
The reason it's hard to maintain NR registration is because of its Neanderthal view of what acceptable CE experience is. It won't let students use the best learning resources in the world, the Internet, and books, to gain CE. So it discourages self-driven learning and professionalism by clinging to absurd and outmoded requirements. And the more it's attacked, the more defensive it becomes. It hasn't improved anything in years, and I'm betting that its venture into computer testing in Texas will be the grandest debacle yet. The people there are completely out of touch with the needs of Texas. There will not be nearly enough testing centers, and it's going to cost folks big bucks in travel expenses just to take the exams that are now given right down the street. But the very worst thing about NREMT is it's arrogance. And that is what is going to cause its ultimate demise. One could forgive some poor service if they were nice about it, but they're not. They NEVER have made a mistake, and in their minds they never will. I for one hope that Texas immediately begins to explore the possibility of going to an alternative testing group and dumping NR. I hope that this will be referred to the Education Committee of GETAC and that work will begin toward investigating alternatives. NR ain't the only game in town. Note: this is OPINION! My opinion. It doesn't reflect the views of my employer or anybody else. It also is not based upon research. So don't start cross examining me on factual accuracy. You're welcome to disagree, offer controverting views, or whatever, but spare me and the list nitpicking over minutiae. Guest guest
Gene, I am also waiting to see how the computer based testing works out...however, I have been impressed with NR and DSHS's attempts to get multiple sites on-line prior to January 1...and by the count Maxie has given, I see more testing sites than DSHS currently has for the Basic and ECA tests...its a good start.... Now, to see how the volume will be handled is an entirely different matter...but the group they are contracted with to do the testing certainly has an impressive client list... Guest guest
I am more interested in seeing how it will be handled when their is some sort of coputer glitch and the students test is lost. Guest guest
That will never happen, Henry. The NR never makes a mistake. Didn't you know that? Guest guest
Actually, I've seen their software at work. Above all other things, this isn't something I'd worry about... they do a really good job with databases and backing up data, and the results should print out immediately and be certified by the staff member attending the test center (who will know NOTHING about the test other than the name and test number, they issue HUNDREDS of different exams.
