Guest guest
I thank God that it was a mild heart attack and a " sign " to get my act in gear :-) Hey, can anyone provide me with a list of foods broken down by their calories, carb level, and heart conscious level ? It's amazing when one gets a heart attack, that you really start thinking about the right things to eat. I'm also interested in if there is a calculator out that provides said information, maybe even an Excel spreadsheet? Guest guest
I had a 'mild mi' about ten years aago at the age of 53. When I had a Thalium stress test about a year later, ther was a lot od dead muscle, but my heart had started to grow new arteries. When I had my latest a month ago, my heart is in pretty good shape. That is probably due more to a very good cardiologist, and modern medication, than anything I do. I do my best to keep my diet & BG under control. Since 6 months ago, I have been on Lantus and Humalog with food. I take 6 - 8 shots per day, & am hoping to start using a pump b/4 the end of thos yesr. To track my food intake I use two programs. I used to use MS Excel, but there is much better stuff out there. Check out http://www.calorieking.com/. They have an excellent online database which is free to all. They also have some pretty decent software for PC & PDA, but it does not track BG or medicatio. Also check http://www.diabetespilot.com/index.php. they have some pretty good software to track food, meds & BG, but I am having a problem with the DataBase getting corrupted at times. Also check out: http://www.mendosa.com/diabetes.htm. has a very extensive list of available software products for the diabetic. If you want to go further with this, you can send me a private email if you wish. I have a lot of info on this stuff, and I don't know if I should be putting too much of it on this group. Good luck, Giles. > > I thank God that it was a mild heart attack and a " sign " to get my act in gear :-) Hey, can anyone provide me with a list of foods broken down by their calories, carb level, and heart conscious level ? Guest guest
It was a 'wake up' call and I'm glad you survived to fight another day. Have a look at the American Heart Association website http://www.americanheart.org/presenter.jhtml?identifier=1200000 there's a fund of information which include diet and lifestyle recommendations. The ADA http://www.diabetes.org/home.jsp is another very useful source of information. Good luck. Take care.
