1 Paramedic Killed, 1 Injured In Ambulance Crash

Oct 10, 2006 06:56 AM CDT

In Southwest County, emergency crews report that a Marble Falls

ambulance has had an accident with another vehicle in the 18000 block of

Highway 71, just west of Bee Creek Road.

A medic in that ambulance is dead at the scene.

Another medic, as well as the driver of the second vehicle involved in the

wreck, are in critical condition.

Right now, the westbound lanes of Highway 71 are closed, and one eastbound

lane is open.

KXAN has a crew on the way. We will have more information as soon as it

becomes available.

Authorities this afternoon identified two people, including a paramedic for

Marble Falls EMS, who died in a morning accident on Texas 71 West in

Southwest County.

Hanson, the 26-year-old ambulance driver, died at the scene of the 5:30

a.m. accident. The driver of a truck that investigators said struck the

ambulance was identified as Troy McVey, 36, of Spicewood. He died at

Brackenridge Hospital.

A second paramedic, 29-year-old Kyla of Austin, was critically

injured in the accident and remains at Brackenridge.

Texas Department of Public Safety spokeswoman Tela Mange said the ambulance,

which was returning to Marble Falls after taking a patient to Austin, was

traveling west on the highway when the driver of the pickup truck, which was

headed east, apparently lost control in a curve about three miles west of RM

620.
