Guest guest
Hi everyone, I haven't posted a message in a long time because I've been in nsr for about 15 months since being put on tikosyn. Lately I've been having a huge problem with depression, but have been told by my cardiologist that there can be terrible interactions between ssri's (anti-depressants) and tikosyn. He says if I want to go on an anti- depressant I'd have to go off the tikosyn and take another antiarrhythmic instead. However, while doing research on the internet about this I have found major warnings about taking anti-depressants with ALL antiarrhythmics. Do any of you who are on any antiarrythmic drugs such as flecainide, propafonol, etc., also take an anti-depressant such as zoloft, lexapro, etc.? If anybody knows about this I'd really appreciate any information you could provide. Thanks so much in advance to anybody who can help me with this or give me any useful information. Guest guest
Hi , I checked the prescribing information for Tikosyn, at http://www.pfizer.com/pfizer/download/uspi_tikosyn.pdf>, and there is no caution for using it along with SSRI type antidepressants. There IS a caution against prescribing tricyclic antidepressants based on TCA's known ability to prolong the QT interval. Since this effect would be additive with the QT interval lengthening caused by Tikosyn it is possible that using the drugs together would induce a Torsade de Pointes arrhythmia, which is considered very dangerous. Maybe your Dr. mis- recalled the information, or perhaps there is new information on a dangerous interaction that hasn't made it to Pfizer's website yet. I am relieved to learn the SSRI's seem to be OK since I'm using Lexapro and may want to try Tikosyn is my AF continues to progress. Guest guest
, I have been on Fluoxetine (Prozac) for many years now and also on Toprol and Rythmol--for 13 months now--and there doesn't seem to be any problem. The Fluoxetine does a great job of keeping me out of depression that I battled for most of my life. Guest guest
I'm pretty sure I read recently that they found that long-term SSRI use can be harmful to people on anti-arrhythmics. Guest guest
I took SSRIs for several years while on Flecainide (tambocor) and had no probelems, but I would check with your cardiologist to be sure. The SSRIs were Prosac, and others. Good luck. > > Hi everyone, > > I haven't posted a message in a long time because I've been in nsr > for about 15 months since being put on tikosyn.
