I've not seen anything on the list yet, so I'll go ahead and let

everyone know that Otto, paramedic with Fayette County EMS,

was killed in an off-duty car accident today.

At this time I know that she had a passenger with her that was

reportedly flown to University Hospital. I know the passenger as an

acquaintance and am worried about him - I would like to find out his

status. My problem is that I don't know his last name, so I can't get

much information from anyone - and I'm not related to him, just a

friend - but he was a good friend of 's and could likely use a

friendly, familiar face.

I do not know where this happened, other than between Utopia, TX and

Bastrop, TX. I have reason to believe that this may have happened in

Medina County near Hondo. I would appreciate finding out about the

status of the passenger, as I may travel to San if he needs

someone by his side, but don't want to make the trip if he's treated

and released, or if he's deceased. If someone knows, and could let me

know, I'd appreciate it. 's family does not know his

status...

I'm sure that Fayette County will release more information soon on

this tragedy, and I'd like to express my condolences to those who

worked with her or knew her. was a good friend, talented

paramedic, and incredible photographer who found joy in other people's

lives.

If you work in the Medina County/Hondo area, or worked this accident,

would you mind giving me a call so I can find out about Carl, and his

needs right now? I'm specifically NOT asking for medical information

(HIPAA violation, etc.) - just that information that may be public

knowledge or visible to someone on the scene.... essentially, a

go/no-go decision for heading to San .

Thanks,

Mike

Mike; The accident happened on hwy 90 about 2 miles

east of Hondo. Ms Otto's vehicle was traveling

eastbound and a car traveling westbound in the

eastbound lane struck her vehicle. I pulled up on

scene after the passenger was flown so I can not shed

mush light. I will find out what I can and get back

with you as soon as possiable.

As the transporting service I would like to extend the family and friends of

Michele our deepest sympathies. It may comfort you to know that it was

instantaneous and she did not suffer at all. As for her passenger, for Hippa

reason I can not disclose anything except that he was transported in critical

condition to University Hospital by Airlife and is currently in serious but

stable condition in ICU.

Again our deepest sympathies.

I did not know Otto as so many of you did, but I would like to

add my deepest sympathies to her family and friends, not the least of

which are the members of the Texas EMS community, but too members of a

profession that crosses all borders and has lost a sister.

We have truly lost " one of our own " , regardless of where we reside. My

prayers are with her family as well as the passenger and his family,

and all whose lives were touched by her presence.

For those who didn't know her, you can see 's other passion at <

http://www.chelmckay.com/>. She recently won an award for her photography

and has done several beautiful weddings. Carl, her passenger, was a friend

of hers and an assistant photographer - also very talented.

death like this is never good but it hurts all the more deeply when it's
