Guest guest
Your mom's story sounds so much like mine--just 25 years later. I will say though that I wouldn't go so far as to say the labor was " easy " . I have a friend who gave birth to 1 lb twins and later a 7 lb single, both natural childbirth, and said the pain level is the same. Evan was just over 3 lbs, and the " pushing " part was over in about 15 minutes because they had to use the vacuum to get him out (fetal distress). I didn't have pain meds either, but it wasn't exactly by choice. Everyone I knew had labors with their first child that lasted 10-14 hours. So when the pain level started to increase (after 2-3 hrs), I thought I better just suck it up because I had a long road ahead. I knew they make you wait to a certain point before they will give an epidural. What I didn't realize is that there is a " point of no return " where once you get there, there isn't time to give you any drugs. Evan was born 7 hrs after my water broke--starting from NO contractions--totally drug free (although right before Evan came out, I was begging for something and the resident delivering him said they'd put " something in the IV to take the edge off " --they never did, but the power of a placebo). The only pain med I got was those little shots they give you when they are stiching things back together down there. Trust me, I was the last person in the world thinking I would be doing " natural " childbirth! Krista Bach wrote: You're not alone. I'm a 28 year old CHARGER, and from what I know from Mom, she had a easy pregnancy even though she was huge, all the amniotic fluid in there plus a tiny baby. When she went into labour all the water came gushing out, and she no longer looked pregnant. Mom never had pain medications when she was in labour cause it was so easy. The doctors tried to stop the labour cause Mom was 7 months, but after seeing that my lungs have fully developed, I was given medical permission to be born. Arthritis is common for us to have, my understanding is because of my cranial abnomalties, and over time it gets stiff, and produces arthritis. I have always had insomnia, problems going to sleep and staying asleep, but not in that order all the time. It changes whenever it wants to change - sometimes I have problems going to sleep, and other times I have problems staying asleep.
