Guest guest
Hi, Tate just had his hips x-rayed andthey suspect something wrong with them. Something about the angle of the bone or something. Anyway, I knew you guys had hip surgery and was wondering what that was for. Or if anyone else has had hip issues? Thanks, Corrie
Guest guest
Corrie- Geesh. Like you need something else, right? Aubrie has such loose connective tissue and shallow hip sockets that her hips literally dislocate at will. I mean, she can protrude the ball of her femur out of the front of her hip socket with no pain or anything. I can dig as much as I want and can't access the ball of my femur! Her shoulders also lift right out of the sockets when she laughs. She's just put together with rubber bands. Her hip surgery had 2 parts. She had bone grafting to reconstruct the hip sockets to be deeper and she had her femur cut off and realigned. So I guess the femur was misaligned in the socket. Is Tate going to Shriners St Louis? We see Dr Schoenecker there. Michele W
Guest guest
Hey , I think we're going to get this checked out at Children's since we'll be there for surgery nextweek. Did you by any chance doa CHARGE conf in Lincoln IL? I was at my sisters wedding showertoday and some of here friends from growing up in Red Bud were there and a coupleof their moms. One of the moms ishead of special services for a coupleof counties. She was telling me about htisCHARGE conf. she heard of and siad it was a parent putting it on and I thought it had to be you. such a small world!! Tate's hip issue is opposite of Aubrie's. His are stiff and they thnk the angle of the bone may be wrong? Hope you are all well, Corrie > > Corrie- > > Geesh. Like you need something else, right? Guest guest
Corrie- Yes, I did that training in Lincoln! I think the mom you are talking about is named . What a small world indeed!! Dr Schoenecker is on staff at Children's too so you may still end up seeing him. It'll be interesting to see what they say. Remind me - what is next week's surgery? Guest guest
Tate's having his cleft lip repair, pe tubes, g-button and laryngoscopy. And hopefully they'll do another eye exam to check his eye pressures. One looks bigger than the other and we want to rule out glaucoma. from the list noticed this and said there was another CHARGEr w/ Gluaucoma so we need to check it out. Oh well, this is nothing we're not used to! That's so great you are doing so many conferences on CHARGE. You have such a wonderful in depth presentation and do such a good job of giving it from a parental perspective. It increases both awareness and understanding. People seem so interested in the syndrome. Do you find that? I think it boggles peoples minds that so much can be going on w/ one child and still these kids amaze us!! Keep up the good work! Guest guest
Corrie- Aubrie had glaucoma too. She had a surgery to for it so she's dx'd with " arrested glaucoma " now. Her pressures are still checked but only with her annual eye exams. Lil' Tate will have plenty of work done! I hope it all goes smoothly for him and for your family. Yes, I do find that people are interested in CHARGE - whether they work in disability services, education, medicine, or are just 'regular' people. What I was doing in Lincoln was sharing our family's story in order to give EI providers a glimpse into our world. It's really about how to best support all families. The CHARGE message is an underlying theme. What I like about CHARGE from a presenter point-of-view is that it touches all areas so I can relate to just about all developmental areas and all specialty areas to some degree - if not from personal experience, at least through this list. In IL, I work for part-time for Hearing and Vision Connections. HVC does EI training as well as family support for young kids with hearing impairment, vision impairment, or both. I do either the full CHARGE story in order to teach about CHARGE or I do the family perspective thing which is more general. I feel pretty lucky to be able to do this for pay. I mean, how many moms get paid to talk about their kids?? Guest guest
Yes, , I'd say you got quite the sweet deal with that one. One other question, what's an EI? A term we don't use here in MO. > > Corrie- > > Aubrie had glaucoma too. She had a surgery to for it so she's dx'd with > " arrested glaucoma " now. Guest guest
Yep - same thing. It's part of the IDEA law so it's an entitlement just like a free public education is. Good luck with that surgery! I hope the weather improves in St Louis by the time you have to go. My husband was supposed to go down for a business meeting on Saturday and had to cancel. We're just getting rain now - on top of the ice we already have. I am curious to see what we'll wake up to. Aubrie is scheduled to have school if the rain doesn't turn back to ice. Crazy stuff!
