Transition from cot to bed help...which bed!!

Hi family

Well its time to transfer from cot to bed...huge decisions as we

should be getting one from the occupational health, only I dont want a

second hand one that lots of other kids have had before her, shes too

precious, and I want the BEST!! dont we all!!

My question is are the charge children in normal beds like everyone

else, or do you disabled types or special ones??

Granted Amelie needs to be elevated because she is pump fed all

through the night and with the lung disease and oxygen she is better

elevated a little.

Please help what should we buy??

Les,

Kennedy is in a regular bed, but if Amelie needs to be raised, you might

want to look at one of those " craftmatic " type beds (probably something

differently named in the UK). I know another girl with CHARGE whose parents

bought her one and it works well as you can adjust it to the child's needs.

Hi ,

Hayley has just transferred from cot to a bed. We got funding for a mattress

suitable for an asthmatic.

The OT made a foam wedge to raise the bed and wedges to go round the bed. Had

the bed modified with wooden sliding gate so that Hayley will not fall out. We

are currently waiting on wooden blocks to raise the bed to a safe level so that

we can get her out without too much strain on our backs, plus we will be able

to change her on her bed :-) Hayley is also continuous feed and has breathing

difficulties and this is working well for her.

I am happy to take a photo and email privately should u wish.

a photo would be great to show my OT that we can maybe try and

keep things normal and simple, thats all we have now raised the cot on

blocks and tons of blankets underneath her matress.

I would like to think we could get away without a second hand electric

big huge monster, which takes over her little room.
