Barbara-

You mentioned the coughing. OW OW OW! I almost felt that.

Thank goodness the docs didn't think about it for awhile.

Nate knew what was up, didn't he. That's cool awareness.

Speedy recovery to Nate.

WOW, Nate sounds like a really tough 12 year old... to complain of a stomach

ache and have all of that going on. He sounds like a great kid! Glad the

docs there are knowledgeable and have the abilities necessary to work quickly to

find a dx and proceed. Hope his recovery is smooth.

Hi all. Haven't posted for awhile-all has been well 'till this week. Nate had a

stomach ache Tues. while he was at his Dad's and finally Dad thought he should

take him to the ER. So I met them there and was a little shocked at Nate's

condition. I haven't seen him that sick in some time. His temp was really low,

BP really high and he kept breaking out in a wierd hive rash that would come and

go. anyway they thought he had a partial bowel obstruction and sent him up to

the PICU. Wed. after his stomach became VERY hard and large they tried a

colonoscopy in the OR to see if they could find the problem and decompress him.

No luck so they opened him up (no little scars this time). His colon had

twisted itself around, filled with air and was just sort of hanging there. So

they removed that part of his colon-it was just too big to put back in! They

sewed the ends back together and sent him back to the PICU. We extibated him

yesterday and once he was done coughing and opened his eyes he

asked if he'd had the operation and if he'd had a blockage or something else.

Smart boy. But he thought it was Wednesday. The outcome was better than it

could have been and recovery will take a bit longer but he'll be fine. I told

him it was a long way to go to get out of taking his mid-terms!

Barbara,

Did they say what might have caused this? Has he had bowel problems in

the past? How scary, sickening, and painful that would be. He sounds

like a very brave and smart kid. I'm glad that it has turned out well.

How long will he be in the hospital?

Barbara-

Wow! What an experience! I can't even think of what to say. I don't think

you could have guessed that one. I hope Nate is up and moving again soon -

and moving in all ways (if you get my drift:-) )

Have the doctors suggested any reason that this happened?

Poor , but it sure is a good ending and what a trooper! What did he

say when you suggested he was trying to get out of midterms? Hahah.

Hopefully he will mend fast and be back on his on-the-go feet soon!

Thanks for all the good wishes. He just wants to eat! Nate has had bowel

problems in the past-due to adhesions from his first surg. @ a month old for his

fundo. and G-tube. At the time they also removed his appendix. However, this

time it was a spontanious thing unrelated to prior surg., constipation,

adhesions, anything. The docs said it could happen to anyone, anytime. Isn't

that a scary thought!

I'm off to the hosp.now and won't be back to the computer for a few days-I will

update when I return...

Barbara-

Good to hear you're home and Nate is doing relatively well. I can't imagine how

uncomfortable he must be after such a procedure. I hope his healing goes

quickly!
