Guest guest
Good morning, I woke up this morning thinking about parrot-heads, and Hemmingway, and Margaritaville playing in my head. And a small coterie of sandled people whose last name should all be Slowskie. My kind of place! Besides the fabulous fishing, sunken treasures, snorkling the reefs, I want to know what the travel agent comes up with. I have enough of an imagination-I could end up with a little tan here. ;-)
Guest guest
This won't be much of a consolation, but could you go on e-bay or Craig's list and sell the tickets? At least, if you truly can't go right now, it won't all be lost. in Ma.
Guest guest
sounds good to me--wish I could see it!! Of course pat's job is coming to an end and the wait at the hall is about 3 months at this point. so...it all comes down to $ who cares what anyone NEEDS or wants!!! Sorry , it's just a sore spot with me--I cant' even tell you how many times we have planned things, and not been able to do them because of $ and my husbands lack of commitment. I could have made major $ all the research I do for things only to throw them away because the time has passed that the prices would be any good. and the thought processes wasted on having kids pets, etc taken care of so that we could go somewhere!!! sorry to be such a downer, but I have the winter blues or non traveling blues or sick of relying on $ blues--you name it I've got it!!! and can't seem to get into my husbands head we don't have to use the tickets right away but WE DO have to book them for sometime in the future or we LOSE them!!! of course god forbid we are able to plan anything!!! ok, I'm done ranting to you at least--hope everyone has a nice day!!! I'm hoping to go w/ my pregnant friend to find clothes to fit her. oh has anyone failed their gluclose test 1 hour and had to do a 3hr test? she is worried about diabetes--and all that entails. Guest guest
- Here's thinking outside the box. What if you use those tickets for a get-away when his job ends? Forget the money it will take. Go somewhere cheap and easy. Heck - DJ and I just had a great time in a little town outside St Louis. Do you guys like antiquing, old houses, wineries, gambling boats?? In Alton IL, there are all of those. Up the road about 20 minutes is a beautiful state park with hiking. Pere Marquette State Park has a beautiful lodge. They even have cabins if you want to go cheaper. All along the river are biking trails. There is the most quaint little town- Elsah, IL- I just want to retire there! They have cute little B & Bs. In Alton, is a bar called Fast Eddies where they have delicious $1 burgers, 29cent peel-and-eat shrimp, and other cheap yummies. DJ and I went, had 3 things to eat a piece and 2-3 drinks a piece and spent maybe $25. There's another bar in Alton that has tons of pool tables and dart boards and also cheap food - fabulous burgers for just over $1. DJ and I ate there for less than it would cost us to eat at Mcs. There's also a gambling boat. We haven't tried that one. I know other friends who are non-gamblers who have gone and just spent $20 on the slot machines for an hour or 2 of fun. You could fly into St Louis, rent a car, drive over to Alton and the river towns, and have a cheap, quiet time together. The biggest expense would be your car and hotel. If you don't want to the expense of car, go the St Louis. At Westport Plaza, they have a several hotels connected to shops, bars, and restaurants. So you could take a cab there and do everything you want without even having to go outside. There's a comedy club and all kinds of things. The costs are greater, but you can do early-bird meals and stuff to save a bit. DJ and I could meet you for a date night! Forget about spending! Just break out and do it. Give yourself a budget. If you did just a weekend, you might be able to do it on $500. It is so worth it for your sanity and your marriage! When he's out of work is the perfect time. You don't want to wait til he has to take time off. What if you just planned it and made him do it?? Would he really complain?? Would he not go?? If he didn't, would your mom or a friend go in his place? I hope you do something! Gosh, you need it! Michele W
Guest guest
I can vouch for how nice Alton, IL is. I got engaged at Pere Marquette state park and got married in a beautiful rose garden there. I have some wonderful memories there! I think it is interesting that so many of you live in Illinois! I grew up outside of Springfield, and I have lived in ville, ton, and Champaign-Urbana. We liked living there but it is now too close to my psycho in-laws who believe we should have given up on Jack, so NY is good for us! ~ Mom to Jack (4 mo CHARGEr) ________________________________________________________________________________\ ____ Cheap talk? Guest guest
- It's fun to hear of your fond IL memories. Sounds like your reasons for staying in NY are good! Gave me a giggle to start my day :-) Michele W
