Diane I'm sending good thoughts and prayers your way. I'm a true animal

lover and when you have a sick pet it's very hard to deal with. People who

aren't into animals just don't understand.

I had a black cat named Spook for 18 years .. he was like one of my

children. I still miss him. Hopefully your kitty will be better soon, or

if necessary, you'll find the strength it takes to have the kitty put to

sleep. I know it's definitely not an easy decision to make. I truly feel

for you and your family. {{Hug}}

> She was in awful shape last night. I stayed up with her until about 5

this morning, jumping up whenever she moved, helping her shift around and

get comfy. I tried to give her water by wetting her lips and her paws, but

she wouldn't even attempt to lick it off. She was so weak that, when she

walked, she looked like she was drunk.

>

> We took her to the vet this morning. She's down to 5 pounds, severly

dehydrated, and so weak she could barely stand. Her temperature was 94.3 -

normal for a cat is about 101. They did blood work, but the vet said based

on what her symptoms are, she is most probably in renal failure; however,

only by doing the blood work will they be able to assess what her kidney

function is. So, in the meantime, we left her at the animal hospital and

they are going to start subcu fluids (she's too stressed out and wasted to

attempt IV fluids) for at least 24 hours and then we can see how she is

doing after that.

>

> My 7 y/o was crying when we took her in this morning, saying he didn't

want to go to Heaven yet. Of course, that set me and my DH off

bawling. I took our son with me this morning because if we were going to

have her put to sleep, I wanted him to be able to have some kind of closure

with her. She's been around his whole life and he is so attached to her.

>

> I will keep you all posted and thanks so much for the prayers and well

wishes. It sure means a lot!

We're planning on going over around noon and say goodbye to her. We'll

bring her home and lay her to rest in the backyard...

Awwwww (big hug for Diane)...I know that the day I have to lay my cat,

Keirah, to rest ~ who has been my faithful, loving companion through so much in

my life over the years~ that it's going to be just like losing a family member,

and I'm going to be so overcome with grief! :-{ (can't even bear to think

about that day!)

My heart is just breaking for you Diane, and I know there are no words of

real comfort. Just remember all the joy she brought you and hold that close and

smile now and then, in remembrance of her!

I'm so sorry to hear the news regarding . I can feel for you. I had to lay

my baby down to rest 6 years ago. I never had another cat like her. She knew

when I was sick--she would lay with me. She knew when I was sad--she would sit

by my side. She knew everything. She was my first baby. I had her for 12 years.

She was not feeling well. She was lying around, her fur was all dull and ugly

and she had a yucky discharge coming from her private area. I called the vet, he

was on vacation. They referred me to a covering vet in the area. I went, he told

me that " you either treat them vigorously and hope for the best or you DON'T " . I

was mortified that he was talking about my baby in that manner. He gave me 15

minutes to make up my mind. I told him that I would think about it over the

weekend and made a follow-up appointment that Monday and that if I change my

mind I would call him to cancel.

I went. My baby cried the whole time I was driving her there making me cry. She

knew she would not be coming home with me. I still cry and wonder if it was the

best thing to do. But I know it was the best. It would only be selfish of me to

keep her alive with the problems she had. I, like many others, did not have the

money to " treat her vigorously " like the vet suggested.

You're in my thoughts and prayers. I have been there and I do not want to ever

be in that situation again but with 4 cats and 1 dog, I'm sure I'll be in that

situation again.

Here is something that my vet shared with me and I would like to share with you.

I sincerely know how you feel. I give you my sympathy.

bilateral hearing loss which is severe to profound in the left ear

had a Ct scan a few months ago that showed abnormal ear

structures, complete absence of the semicircular canals{not really

sure what that means} they told me that needs to continue

wearing his hearing aides unil he goes back to see the ENT so he can

determine where we go from here.I do have good news to report he

will be getting a teacher for the hearing impaired his ei cordinator

, i was wondering if he was doing better after his procedure... I

totally know what you mean about someone being at your house everyday! sometimes

im barely outta the bed, my hair is standing on end, ive been up 12 times

checking chrystines apnea monitor and pump, changing her diaper... feeding and

changing silas and i used to worry if my house was completely neat

(laugh!)-that was before silas was born, now chrystine can have her occupational

therapy

wherever the cleanest room is!!!! chrystine has mild hearing loss in her

left ear, but doesnt wear an aide. it is checked every 6 months. her right ear

has normal hearing. her ears are very cute and prominent, I LOVE THEM... my oh

so insensitive oldest sister came in right after christmas, (i have 2

sisters, my oldest lives in nashville) and commented that chrystine should be

able

to fly away with the ears she has. she asked me once if i got her off the

clearance rack, where is this email going? anyways, does nathan have colobomas,

chrystine has bilat optic nerve colobomas... there are many awful things i

have to do to her, you know-the meds, the boluses, chrystine gets accucchecks,

the hospitalizations, the bloodwork... but the one thing i hate is her eye

drops!!! she used to wear the patches until she figured out how to pull them

off. now i use atropine drops. her vision is like 20/200 and i know that the

stupid drops render her nearly blind, that i am doing this to her for cosmetic

purposes... you have any one thing you can't stand to do?

your friend,

chrystal

Glad to hear is well and resuming EI. Here are my unsolicited

thoughts on the EI coordinator holding back on hearing services. She should

not be screening things for you. She should be giving you everything that's

available and then letting you decide which things seem important.

Sometimes, you don't know until the actual therapist comes a few times if

their visits are fruitful and worthwhile. On paper, it may seem that he

needs such-and-such therapy at a certain frequency, but if it's a waste of

your time because the provider isn't doing a good job, then you don't have

time to spend with her. Or you need to change providers.

Along the way, we've had to switch around how often we see whom and when.

Nap schedules change. We have doctor appointments. Sometimes, we just

needed a break! And here's another thought. There's no reason why some of

those therapists can't work together and come for a joint visit. PT and OT

may be able to coordinate and interact with him together in such a way as to

meet both goals in one visit. Same with hearing and vision or developmental

therapy or whatever. So be creative in thinking about what he needs and

what your family needs to make it all work. Then suggest that they adjust

to your needs.

Good luck! It's a tough juggling act!

Glad to hear is doing so well! Who does recieve services

through? I presume Saratoga County, but where are you (if you don't

mind sharing)? Just wondering--I'm dealing with Albany County right

now for a patient, and have been pretty impressed so far.
