Does anyone have experience, positive or negative, with AFIB and the

simultaneous use of

Fluoxetine for depression? I am not taking Fluoxetine currently, but am

interested in its side-

effects re AFIB.

Thanks,

Herb F

Hi Herb,

I haven't taken Prozac, but I've been on a similar SSRI (fluvoxamine) for most

of the past

fifteen years. When my afib became problematic I did what everyone does and

started

eliminating all possible triggers. I gave up caffeine, alcohol, pain killers,

and finally, my

anti-depressant. I went off it for over a year (in 2003), but doing so did not

have an

apparent effect on my afib, which continued to worsen, along with my mood!. So I

went

back on it and have concluded that for me anyway, it did not have any effect,

bad or good

on my afib, other than relieving my anxiety in general. That probably helped me

cope with

episodes when I had them. I imagine that in a group of over 2000 on this forum

there are

more than a few who are on an anti-depressant, so I'm curious to see other

responses to

your question.

Hi Herb F

I was on Fluoxetine after a long stay in hospital when I was fitted with

a pacemaker, I was finding it difficult to come to terms with the fact

that I need a pacemaker and that I would be on warfarin for life.

I was on Fluoxetine for a nearly 3 years and would say that if anything

it has a positive effect on afib in the sense that I was a lot calmer

and did not have so many mood swings.

I was on Prozac for a few months this past year, didnt seem to

interfere with any AF meds or exacerbate the situation.. I did have

some problems with bizarre dreams .. I have taken PRozac off and on

since it was first marketed. It petty well controls my depression

and helps with appetite and less cluster hedaches..

I read something recently, wish I still had the link to it, but it said

something about SSRI's having been shown to be harmful for people on afib

medications. You might want to look into it further, and if I find the link,

I'll post it.
