Dear :

I assume that at the end of the sixth week , you dropped Flecinide? Am I

correct? What did you do next?

I have been on Sotalol, and for the past two days have tried a cocktail

of sotlaol and Flecanide, and the result is the feeling you describe.

Joe Y.

Flecanide plus other things.

I was on Fleanide for about six weeks, at that time I felt that by five

weeks I would not make the sixth. Getting of the Train I was unable to

make to the ticket barriers how I made it to the office I just don't

know. It caused a terrible pains in my back and a short ness of breath.

Please bear in mind that most of the drugs caused a shortness of breath

with me So do not feel this will happen to you. I believe it has a

similar effect on the body as Doefetilide, ie is a potassium blocker

broad spectrum where as Dofetilide is a defined potassium blocker. At

the time I was on this med, in 1995/6 it was the drug of choice for

Cardiologists as it had less side effects and was quite good at

maintaining NSR. I have heard it does contribute to Aflutter but again I

have only heard this to be honest I cannot remember where I heard this

from. Why dofetlide has not been released for general use I just don't

know. My fear now that drug companies will not invest in new drug

programmes as ablations will in a way stop the need for new drugs. I

have not heard any new meds on the horizon for some time. Where as there

is a need for a decent meds for those patients unsuitable for a PVA or

unwilling to undergo this procedure. But with the huge amounts needed

for drug developments I suspect drug companies on invest in drugs that

will make money. If anybody has heard of any new drugs in the pipeline

please let me know. Perhaps for the sake of hope we should start a drug

watch of all new drugs associated with AF on the drawing board.

I know in the dark days when news of a new procedure or drugs was posted

my chest would grow 2ins and I would feel ok for 20 mins or so. That 20

mins meant a lot to me at that time.

Best regards

C Uk

I saw a recent note inferring that using Flecanide to

control AFIB can cause Atrial Flutter. Have been on

100 X 2 of Flecanide for a year and its done wonders

to control the AFIB. Just went to my cardiologist and

AFIB has changed to AFLUTTER. I didn't know it was a

possible side affect. I feel 100% normal. I can tell

when I'm in AFIB but not AFLUTTER. Does anyone have

any additional info??

Thanks,

Jerry
