Guest guest
But it is possible for both Asperger's and Apraxia to co-exist, correct? Don't many of these developmental diagnoses overlap? My son who did not talk before age 3 1/2, almost 4 was observed by a psychologist who said he also may have mild Asperger's too. Has the ability now to talk about hexagons, pentagons and octogons but cannot carry on a conversation. Has a photographic memory and can recite a video tape in it's entirety for 1/2 hour show. Does not stim that you can notice but I have seen some visual stimming. Very visual learner. I have noticed that when he recreates a the Tank video, will play it out on the tracks and recites the show, he gets up close to the trains only when the video moves in for an up close shot of the train. Is that stimming? Or mearly acting out what he sees, and how he sees it? Also, when he saw a soccer ball, he said, " Mommy, pentagons " Now how many times have you seen a soccer ball and not seen pentagons, but he was right. He just learns so differently. In Kindergarten now (5 years old) and probably will repeat Kindergarten due to his lack of socialization and the fact we are about 80% potty trained. We're getting there though. Thanks for reading. Guest guest
Actually a significant history of abnormal speech development *eliminates* the possibility of an Aspergers dx. If there is one thing I have learned, it is that MD's are not gods, they sometimes speak out of ignorance. If they are good MDs, they will admit when they don't know or are wrong and will then research the info to find the correct answer. In the meantime, you might want to help your MD out and give him/her this: Here is the DSM IV diagnostic criteria stating just this: Criterion D. In contrast to Autistic Disorder, there are no clinically significant delays in language (eg: single words are used by age 2 years, communicative phrases are used by age 3 years). http://web.syr.edu/~rjkopp/data/as_diag_list.html mom2twoblessings@... wrote: went to a new nuero yesterday for a check up and he said he might have Asperger's Syndrome! Is this common in apraxic children? I just thought " Great...something new to look up! " (sarcasm!) I was going to enroll him i n T-Ball today too! Do ya'll think thats a good idea? I think gymnastics is boring to him. _mom2twoblessings - Photobucket.com_ (http://photobucket.com/albums/v343/mom2twoblessings/%20and%20Jordan/ ?start=0)
