I am a new EMT in the Dallas area. I am looking for some honest

feedback to help me complete my research on some of the companies in

the area, and I want your opinion...OPINION. I just want a position

in the DFW area, that has room to grow, and has 911 areas. If you

want to email me privatly, so be it.

FREMS - a decent company, but no 911 conracts

TLC - they have big ambulances, and 1 or 2 911 contracts, I heard

they are okay as well.

AMR - another decent company with good insurance and they have

Arlington and Collin County. When area these conracts up? think they

will renew?

Royal Ambulance - I haven't heard anything good about them.

Careflite - decent company with good benefits, I saw them at the

Careflite update, and it was really cool. I know they have

county, and I think a few others, I don't know what they are.

Mercy ambulance - I don't know anything about them.

Star Plus Ambulance - I don't know anything about them.

ETMC - good company, but too far for me.

are there any other companies out there? What else can you tell me

about these companies..thanks

You are describing 3/4 of the ems and ambulance services in the United

I lay you dollars to doughnuts that if we looked hard enough we could find

folks that will tell you XYZ service is the greatest on the planet and in the

same Ready Room have guys or gals tell you it was the biggest %^ & %^%^ & % hole

on the planet.

When I was a Chief I made a point to listen to the street folks and get

their feel for out place in the grand scheme of things compared to the other

shops in the region (bear in mind that the whole state of NJ would fit between

Dallas and Houston more or less).

When I had one guy griping about how we were the pits I was OK with that

knowing that not all will be pleased with management but when I heard stiff from

folks that were generally happy with our policy and procedures we tried to

see what we could do to move more to center. If more services would look for

the center mass of the way they do business more and more folks would be

content (not that raises would not go a long way in that respect as well but I

was

spoiled back home in NJ I worked for both the number one and number 2 best

paid BLS 9-1-1 services in the state over time).

This is long, but if you want to work in DFW it might be worth your

time.

Might not as nice as they seem, according to scuttlebutt on the

street. Some like it, but most don't.

Yes, they are honest and seem to care about what they do. Pay is

okay and enefits better than most.

Just a personal opinion, but I wouldn't want to work for AMR. Too

much of a reputation.

Stay as far away from this one as you can.

Careflite isn't bad.

> Mercy ambulance - I don't know anything about them.

Another one to stay away from. They can't keep supplies on the

trucks or keep the trucks out of the shop.

> Star Plus Ambulance - I don't know anything about them.

Small outfit in McKinney I think. Scuttlebutt says they are okay.

> ETMC - good company, but too far for me.

Waxahachie is too far? It is just south of South Dallas.

Others that you should stay away from are First Choice, Advicare,

Citizens Care, Secure, Visions, Care First, Care Plus, North Texas

EMS, Life Care Plus, Lifetime, St. s, St. s, Trans

Care and Greater Dallas. Some that might be okay are Ft. Worth's Med

Star, Irving's MedCare, Lifeguard in Dallas and Ameritech in Euless.

I've heard good and bad about Lone Star in .

If you just have to work for a private company in DFW, I'd go for

Med Star, MedCare or TLC.

Hello ,

I think I am going to apply at Careflite or TLC....Both have good reputations

from what I have heard, but a scuttlebutt from street tells me that there are

more room for advancement at Careflite than TLC, that's important to me.

I was also told that Careflite has 911 areas in county and Celina, and

they said there is more just aorund the corner, and I am all about that.

I don't know alot about not-for-profit companies, but I have to believe that

it pays better than a " for profit " company. IS there anyone from Careflite on

this board that can fill in the blanks?

JW - interested. email me privatle if you choose.

I'm not sure who you are working for, or where you maybe getting your

information, but as the Clinical Practices Supervisor for Life Care Plus EMS, I

can assure you that our service does NOT fall under the " shady " catagory like

some of the others that are listed.

Our protocols are very advanced, we have decent equipment and trucks, and

anytime they need service, they go to service. Our personnel are professional

and don't make calls with shirts untucked, or uniforms that are in disrepair.

No, checks bounced from them either.

As a paramedic for Greater Dallas EMS also, I can say that during my one yr

with them, that I've not had any problems. They have decent trucks and

equipment. I should also point out that at neither place, I've never had a

check bounce, like some of the places that you have listed. Greater Dallas has

several stations in the DFW area, and this would not be possible if they were

not doing the business that they are. If they were not a good company they

would not have the people or stations that they have.

As a event medic for Trans-Care, I've never had any problems there either.

Equipment if fair, better than some for the service that we do. They are an

events service, covering only special events, so what they have is more than

sufficient for that. Pay is good also. I've been here since 2003, and never

had any problems.

I've worked for some of the places that are listed, and would not recommend

many of them to work for. Doctor's & DFW Ambulance are two of those, but these

have been shut down by the feds, with several more on your list that are being

look at still by the feds.

I'll be glad to answer any questions that anyone may have about any of the

service I've talked about here.

Thanks,

Lone Star was iffy at best unless they have improved over the past 2-3

years. Some good people and some shady folks too and a bit shady on their

way of doing business....kind of a good old boys club atmosphere in the

station.

Care First was....well let's say avoid them like the plague. We had people

on the trucks who had expired certs and CPR cards. The units were sub-par

and the equipment...well...it sucked.
