Guest guest
I can not do this justice tonight . Some acid (pH <6.5) things actually have an alkaline effect becaue of the mineral they contribute to the body .Unfortunately there are some disagreements on the rating of some foods . " let it be " Acid contributions are mostly from meat milk sugar (and white carbs ) and perscription drugs, alcohol artificial things ... For some reason I also have a very acid situation and need to keep vigilent on countering this with alkaline diet. Yes my rhythm disturbances (not Af but scary) are most sensative to going acid -eating out, high fat meals etc. Once only 8 years ago I could go to Tony Roma's all you can eat ribs and quaff down a few beer and keep-on-ticking. now a mildly fat meal would have me in AF. For the newophytes it is worth trying a diet change to keep Af at bay as long as possible . Only a small number of tenured AFers could escape it after a few years . For my part I do not know when it will return . I will be surprized if I can leave this life without spending a sustantial amount of time in Af . My goal is to keep it away for as long as posible. NSR - whole food lifestyle .

Me too ... one other thing to note on this that surprised me when I read the book. SUGAR is the worst for producing acid. The body has (I think) 13 types of acid that get released to digest certain types of foods in different combinations. Most foods, including hard-to-digest things (like shrimp) take only 3-4 of these acids to break down. Sugar takes SEVEN of them. I've proven this to myself repeatedly ... certain types of sugar will guarantee that I have acid reflux (processed sugars in candy, ice cream, etc.). Other types aren't as bad (cake ... though the frosting does me in). I really did learn a lot ... and have addressed dietary changes 20 years ago to address this and try to lower my acid levels in my body. I'm still trying to figure out the connection to a-fib though ... does acid cause more inflammation and the inflammation exacerbates a-fib? It's confounding.
