Guest guest
Naples school can't shake indoor air pollution sickness NAPLES -- (EnviroWorld) -- Despite the detection and cleanup of a toxic mold at East Naples Middle School, teachers are still complaining of illnesses there and the school board has okayed additional environmental testing, the Naples Daily News reported. Thirty-five teachers have sought medical treatment for symptoms such as headaches, dizziness, sore throats and watery eyes since the firm Apollo Environmental removed traces of the mold Stachybotrys atra. The same mold has also been found at two other Collier County schools. A report by & Linders International recommended that $46,000 in additional tests be conducted at East Naples. The school board hired that firm after the local teachers union began considering legal action to obtain help for the ill teachers. Problems at the school trace back to 1994, when the school district began shutting off air conditioners when schools were not in use.
