Guest guest
Greetings All; I am curious to find out if there has been any progress (anywhere) with respect to making a EMS Board. I bring this up due to listening to a speaker in a class I am taking make a small blurb about us having an EMS Board to deal with Licensing issues for Paramedics. I did not bring up that we do not have a Licensing Board for Paramedics (she was comparing nursing with Paramedicine and believed we had the same board make up as nursing). Where is this issue going? Or has it gone? Danny L. Owner/NREMT-P PETSAR INC. (Panhandle Emergency Training Services And Response) Office Fax
Guest guest
Well, Danny, seeing as the bill died in the last regular session of the Legislature and the " call " of the special sessions were limited to school finance issues, there is no current legislation proposed. The legislature will next meet in January 2007. You should ask EMSAT and TAA as well as other organizations about their stance on the issue. You might also inquire with your state representative and state senator. -Wes EMS Board Greetings All; I am curious to find out if there has been any progress (anywhere) with respect to making a EMS Board. Guest guest
Just so you know Danny, GETAC has appointed a task force to look into this issue. The task force was just appointed, and hasn't met yet, but if you have opinions, or suggestions, I'm on the task force, and so is Dudley (he's actually co-chair). So feel free to send me, or him any thoughts u might have.
Guest guest
Thank you Wes. I see alot come across the listserver. I just didn't catch what had happened to this. Danny: EMSAT's position will be whatever the membership directs us, as long as funding and other resources area available. The EMSAT members that responded to a poll on the issue indicated substantial support to pursue the issue again. However, I will tell you that it will take a LARGE number of EMS folks to ever make this a reality. When the bill was filed last year, it was met with much opposition from the EMS community as well as outside organization. Some of which I didn't even know existed. It will be interesting to see what the Task Force identifies as issues and what input they receive from the EMS community as it relates to an EMS Commission. I think the question now is, how much support is there for an association to undertake this task? , President EMSAT
Guest guest
; What were the reasons the bill was defeated? I would suspect as with many bills there were riders that were unacceptable to some or most that opposed it. As a member of EMSAT ( I believe I am still a member) I want an EMS commission similar to what nursing and other professional organizations have. The ability to regulate, the abilty to enforce those regulations, and the ability to place the licensed personnel on their own footing. I do understand, as should all who speak of the licensed personnel that this will be a new foothold for Parmedics across the nation not just in Texas. Would that possibly be a reason for the groups you didn't even know existed to oppose the bill? I think yes. Please tell me if I am wrong but if we had an organization like that of the nursing board would that not take away some of the power of the medical directors? To clarify I am in no manner speaking against medical direction. Just asking a question. Danny L. Owner/NREMT-P PETSAR INC. I believe the major reason the bill failed was lack of support from the EMS community. The goal of the EMS commission legislation was to create an agency much like you say...an agency made up of EMS people regulating and enforcing EMS issues. I don't think there was anything in the bill, nor was it the intent of the bill to lessen the authority of the EMS Medical Directors. , President EMSAT
