All of the NR paramedics out there, let me know what you think of this

idea. I am an educator and I have thought about offering a

reregistration package. Offering ACLS, PALS, CPR, PHTLS, & AMLS.

These classes would meet the requirements for the core CE hours.

Since we all have to reregister in March, I thought about offering

this " package " in Jan. or Feb. I haven't explored cost yet. I have

contacted NR and they will send address labels of every NR paramedic

in the state. Any comments?

Check out the Comprehensive Advanced Life Support course offered by the

Minnesota Academy of Family Physicians...

_http://www.calsprogram.org/_ (http://www.calsprogram.org/)

They now have their handbook available as a CDROM, and they are in the 11th

edition of what I consider perhaps the Premier Single Site " Merit Badge "

Course...

They like to have teams come in to take the class together...Docs, nurses,

midlevels, paramedics etc...

and if you have qualified as an instructor on the other 'merit badge

classes', they do offer an opportunity to become a CALS instructor.

Sounds like a good idea to meet the minimal requirements that everybody

seems to accept as CE. I'm certainly not criticizing you or your

program, I hear/pay attention to only good things about it. However, as

far as CE is concerned, we all need to consider doing more things that

will add to the knowledge base - Lab Values, Advanced Practitioner

Physical Exam, SLAM stuff, etc. Just a thought....

which is one of the three advantages of CALS...they do cover extra stuff,

including some of the stuff in a wet lab that SLAM covers, they do emphasis

team work, and they manage to do it in about three and a half days, including

the wet lab...

Leaving more time to do other things to extend your knowlege.
