Guest guest
How do you know a child has JRA? Are there symtoms to look for? Tests to take? I am sure the answer is yes to both, but I never knew about this. Thanks, Murray mom to twin Chargers and and wife to Jay Re: Tim Re:Antipsychotic Drugs Tim, What the heck is JRA? Guest guest
In 's case, she came home from school one Friday and could hardly walk. Then when she was signing to me, she couldn't use one hand for fingerspelling. She said they hurt. When I looked at her hands, they appeared swollen and red. She also said her knees and left foot hurt. I took her to the ER (we'd recently had scares in Indiana because 2 college students died from meningitis) and they checked her out, even did hip, knee and hand xrays. Nothing was found, but we were told to give her alternate doses of ibuprofen and Tylenol and to follow up with our family doctor. When we did that, said her hands were fine that day; but her shoulder and elbow were hurting. Our doctor referred us to rheumatology and it went from there. They did bloodwork for autoimmune problems and determined the JRA. (I think it was the level of ANA's, if I am remembering correctly.) So I guess it is just a matter of bloodwork to assist with the clinical diagnosis based on joint inflammation and stiffness. In 's case, it is exacerbated by the fact of her being hyperreflexive.
