Guest guest
>>> Pardon the cross post, but this is an appeal to stop further negative public relations of EMS on the part of the 'entertainment' industry LAN<<< This is being posted to ask for your help in stopping this barrage of negative images television is projecting about the EMS Profession. Here is a brief statement concerning one of the newest incidences, with contact information for TNT listed at the end. Thanks TNT will be airing a " series " beginning in June, portraying a very negative image of EMS. Below is an excerpt from TNT's web site. The trailer they show on their web sit is NOT what I witnessed on television this week. [ " SAVED " tells the story of Wyatt Cole (), a medical-school dropout and compulsive gambler who becomes an EMT in Portland. The series follows him as he makes his way through the minefield that is his 24-hour shift and finds his only solace in the job's breakneck pace.] Thank you in advance for your attention to this matter. Hicken, RN Hicken, MICP TNT's email address for comments is below as well as a contact-us list for letters and phone calls. tnt@... http://www.tnt.tv/contactus/addresses/ There is also a message board forum on their web page. Please let them know how you feel about this continued negative portrait of the EMS Profession. Thanks, -- K. Guest guest
It's very hard to comment on something you have not seen, and only heard through emails. I know there have been some rumblings on the NAEMT group about this same thing and they want a hired Publicists I guess from what I can tell, so the Publicist can jump on the TV industry every time we see something that is not in a positive light, or we don't like. Life is not always in a positive light. Is it fair we ask 1,000s of Medics to complaint to the links below on something they have never viewed or witnessed. Would that not make us as irresponsible as those doing this, if they are doing it? Thanks for the info. Maybe we can get a link to see a trailer of the show. The people I know can separate make believe from reality. The heck of it, is most these shows have advisors such as real EMTs and Paramedics. There is now a movie coming out about 9/11 and there are family members of 9/11 as ADVISORS. The 9/11 families are now in another feud whether this movie showed be shown. Well you have some making money on it as ADVISORS, some mad they didn't get in on the cash, and some that will really be hurt. So who is right and who is wrong? What is the relationship of each of these family members. Wife, Husband, or 5 th cousin removed. Thanks Ron Fwd: " SAVED " Negative portrait of EMS >>> Pardon the cross post, but this is an appeal to stop further negative >>> public relations of EMS on the part of the 'entertainment' industry >>> LAN<<< This is being posted to ask for your help in stopping this barrage of negative images television is projecting about the EMS Profession. Guest guest
I think it is crazy that we have so many people who get their panties all up in a bind simply because a new TV show comes out. If you want to attack TV shows, then they might as well throw on Bringing Out the Dead, Broken Vessels, Third Watch, Emergency, Paramedics, Rescue 911, and every other fire/EMS show/movie out there. Life isn't perfect, neither are we. My point being that people don't actually watch these shows and go; " oh my God, Paramedics are freaking idiots! " They watch them for entertainment. If this industry spent less time being cry babies, and put as much time and effort into their education and being better providers, as they do moaning and groaning we might get the respect. Guest guest
I have never watched " ER " , " Life in the ER " , " Paramedics " , " Third Watch " , " Doogie Howser, DO " , or any of that crap. If I am going to watch TV, I want to learn something thus National Geographic, the History Channel or, best of all, the TV off with a good book. Ignorance is bliss and thus I care little about television fiction. I did watch " House, MD " once. I liked the drama but the whole concept of a special diagnostic unit with 4-5 physicians waiting for a case is ridiculous. I was at Princeton last year and there was no hospital there. The character of House is interesting in that he is a genius yet flawed. The cases are ridiculous yet well written and well photographed. It is a shame that afternoons are not full of " Gilligan's Island " , " McHales Navy " , " The Munsters " , " The Addams Family " and " Bewitched " . Every kid should watch at least 30 minutes of the " Three Stooges " with one mandatory segment by Curly before going to school each day. Just these changes would make the world a better place. Guest guest
I am not sure, but this sounds like a story that would happen in EMS or any other industry or occupation. Gambling, drinking, drug addiction and divorce. Quite a high occurrence in this business. Enjoy the show and be glad they used our profession to show to good and the bad of high stress jobs and its effect on each of us. Guest guest
Every kid should watch at least 30 minutes of the " Three Stooges " with one mandatory segment by Curly before going to school each day. Just these changes would make the world a better place. I show Curley based 3 Stooges to my HS EMT classes and have them document all kinematic blunt force/penetrating injury, describe potential energy in equation format, all expected accompanied trauma involved, as well as the basic prehospital treatment. Great ocular and head injuries. The future physicians, who go through my HS class, will be more well rounded. I tried this on my paramedic students, except they started actually trying the Stooges stuff out on each other. If you want to try this, do not use it on firefighters - see above. Do not use Shemp based stuff because it is boring. Absolutely do not use any Joe based stuff - all you get is wrist action with 'oh, that hurts' --we won't go there. -MH Re: Fwd: " SAVED " Negative portrait of EMS I think it is crazy that we have so many people who get their panties all up in a bind simply because a new TV show comes out.
