But how can an ambulance get to you quickly when it's an hour away? And what is it doing so far from home? Well in another hard-hitting investigation that airs tonight on 11 News at 10, the Defender's have discovered the answer is the usual: money. And what they've found are the ambulances of County's Emergency Services District 1 (ESD-1) are being used to transfer non-emergency patients. The reason? To make money for the district. Sometimes ambulances are sent as far away as Galveston to do such jobs. But there's also someone else who makes money from these transfers -- the public official who runs ESD-1, Jody Meads. His work contract gives him as much as $25,000 in bonus money depending on how much revenue he pulls in for the ESD, the type of revenue made from transfers. And there's another, possibly more lucrative way Meads is making money from ESD-1. But to find that out and what Jody Meads has to say about all of this, tune in tonight at 10 p.m. for 11 News.
