Guest guest
Hi all. I have posted before usually asking questions to help out and better understand things on behalf of my sister. However, I am not in the pre-approval stages of having the surgery myself. My sister's success has been a big inspiration to me. I have enough health issues that approval hopefully will not be a problem. I just hope I do as well as my sister has done and I hope I have the right mind set going into this. I have a protein question. Is there certain kinds of protein that are better than others? It seems odd to me that other foods that are eaten are not in there long enough to absorb certain things such as nutrients so that is why we make up for it with vitamins, etc. Is the same true with high protein foods? Are we gaining enough protein from them? Such as chicken, tuna, cottage cheese, etc. Is there such thing as a protein pill? I have tried some protein drinks and shakes and just can't do them. The best I can do is a select few of the protein bars. Why does protein have to taste so bad? Any insight anyone could share would be appreciated. I should know in 4-6 weeks about my approval for the surgery. If it is approved, I am shooting for a surgery date of early June. Thanks and God bless,

Guest guest
- What protein drinks have you tried and how did you mix them? Vitalady has the best tasting drinks out there and sometimes it takes a while to find the one that you really like. Don't give up. We do not absorb much protein from the food at all so that is why the drinks are so important. Jeanne in WI Age 39 - Dr. T. Chua Open RNY - 5/21/02 5'7 " - 314/218/150-175 djgraves@... Guest guest
Thanks for the suggestions. I have tried Isopure drinks as well as chocolate and vanilla powders from both GNC and vitamin world. I tried mixing them both with water and with milk. No can do. I will check out Vitalady a bit further and see if I can find something that will work. I still can't believe out of all the stuff out there that they have not come up with a protein pill. Thanks again. > - What protein drinks have you tried and how did you mix them? Guest guest
: I do use products from Vitalady on the weekends, but during the work week, I use ready to drink Atkins Advantage shakes. They are sweet (made with splenda) but only have 1 g of sugar, 1 g of carbs, and 20 g of protein per shake. Besides Vitalady products, they are the best tasting, I think. I like the vanilla and strawberry, but they do make chocolate and coffee (kinda chalky). You can get them @ grocery stores or walmart, etc. , IL LapRNY Jan 21, 2003 -51 lbs. Guest guest
they really do taste better blended in a mixer or with a hand mixer than shaken. IMHO anyways Pure Whey Stack and Proscore 100 chocolate are my faves. If you like sweeter things.....the Atkins ready-to-drink is very sweet tasting. Guest guest
Well, maybe because of the way we malabsorb, it wouldn't do us much good anyway! Sharon in D.C. Re: protein ? Guest guest
That's what I thought. Get yourself some samples from Vitalady so you can try a bunch more. You want to find one that you like mixing with water and ice only. I'm confident that you'll find one or two that you'll like. Take care. Jeanne in WI Age 39 - Dr. T. Guest guest
Dear , Visit Mom at her website and use the handy Q & A tool on her website. I visited the site just a few days ago to read up on my vitamins, etc., and I'm almost six months out! Just goes to show you that you CAN teach an old dog new tricks. LOL My personal favorites (protein powders) are Champion Nutrition's Pure Whey Stack and their ProScore 100, both in chocolate. I can't decide which one I like the best so I make a shake with a scoop of each. Take good care and God bless your WLS journey. Guest guest
Food proteins & bars need to go thru the old stomach to be fully digested. And they need to be digested before they can be absorbed. The liquid proteins have been pre-digested (chemically), so they're ready to absorb without benefit of the stomach. Which proteins have you tried? Not all taste bad. Only the NON-CHOCOLATE ones. LOL! Thanks, Vitalady, Inc.
