I presume you're still taking your medication and will for a couple of months yet. Gordon
Guest guest
Steve, Are you taking plenty of magnesium supplements for your heart? I had 3 failed ablations, so I won't comment further. LJ
Guest guest
Steve it is not uncommom to have more afib during the first week after the procedure. I hope that you are on antiarrhythmic medication and some rate control ones. The most important thing that your protime shoud be therapeutic between 2-3 and your heart rate is not above 100 beats per minute. Is your doctor aware of your condition? Guest guest
Hey Rich-o Thank you for your response. I had my work done at St. Joes in Burbank, Ca. I don't know if it was a full ablasion just one side. I assume it was both as it took about six hours and they had three entry spots. As far as medication I have been on Rythmal but I don't think it makes a difference. I am also on Cumadin as a blood thinner. I have been having tons of palpatations, like 100 a day. The doctor says that I have also been having a-fib. I cannot tell as sometimes I just feel like I am having contiuous palpatations. My a-fib episodes never took my heartrate up over 110. So it is hard to tell if it palpatations or a-fib. My doctor is already talking about a second ablasion with a different doctor. He recommends I try Dr. Chun Hwang at Ceder Sienai In Los Angeles. This doctor is apparently more qualified for my type of case. I thank you again for any insight you can give me as I am suffering. Cannot sleep and having trouble functioning. Guest guest
for everyone who's had an ablation and suffered more events just afterward, what were you told to do? Just hang out until they go away, or go to the ER.. up medication... etc.. I'm just curious... and for those who just waited it out, did you wake up one day and that was just it.. no more afib? thanks, Stef efenell ericf12@...> wrote: Steve, I also just had a PVI ablation last Wednesday and so far I am having more frequent a-fib events then i did going into the procedure. Guest guest
Hello, I just had an ablasion about ten days ago. I have had bad times, lots of palpatations and two long hard a-fib episodes. I did just wait it out I didn't go to the emergency room. My doctor told me to wait it out unless something felt bad or dizzy. It is very frustrating to be having events after ablasion but I have read many stories of people who have had bad times and then they just went away. I have felt great now for about 32 hours but before that it was torture. Just be patient and remind yourself you are going to feel better. Guest guest
I was sent home from Cleveland with a monitor with which I could transmit my ecgs directly to the Clinic. A doctor or nurse would come on the line to tell me what was happening, ask me how I felt, and most importantly, reassure me that it didn't mean that my ablation had failed! I only had 3 to 4 episodes of afib in the first four weeks, one episode each weekend, nothing in between. Only one episode involved a sustained high heart rate and the nurse called me back a couple hours after I called it in to check on me. By then, I was slowing down, about to convert. She said she did send patients to their local ERs or cardios office if the heart rate was very high or if the episode lasted too long, or if for any reason she was not comfortable with the ecg. But i never had to go, I just stayed home til it stopped. Make sure after your ablation that you are clear on what you are supposed to do afterwards if you do have afib or any questions when you get home. Guest guest
Hello , Thank you for your story. I am freeked out by the fact that I have had some a-fib episodes after my ablasion. As I talk with more people I am realizing that this is very common. I have had two episodes in ten days since my ablasion and for the first four days I had tons of palpitations. The papatations seemed to have stopped. I am having only about three or four a day. This is good news that the Clevland Clinic said it does not mean your ablasion was not a success. How are you feeling now and how long has it been since your procedure if you don't mind my asking. Guest guest
Steve, My ablation was on Feb. 15, 2005, so it's been almost one year. I'm feeling great. Just yesterday, I picked up a 48-hour holter monitor which will, I hope, be the final follow-up monitoring for Dr. Natale. It's uncomfortable, my skin is itching under the electrodes, and I'm praying that it doesn't show any " silent " afib. But I really don't expect it will. How are you feeling now and how long has it been since your procedure if you don't mind my asking.
Guest guest
Hi Earl - I'm glad to hear that your episodes are more mild but how long are each? My current standard afib event is super hard and super fast and I usually end up in the ER for a cardioversion. Since going on Rhythmol a few weeks back I have had a couple 1 minute to 5 minute " light " episodes .. almost as if they don't quite organize properly and then they are gone. I have also had one very hard afib event which required cardioversion, and then a super fast (240bpm) aflutter that then turned into afib.. that was just on Monday.. I actually converted the next morning by myself in the ER. Last night I went into another " light " episode of afib at 3am, and self-converted at 8:45... this afib was just different from my usual.. it was slow and well... " light " ... If I thought that post-ablation afib would be this " light " stuff I would be quite excited, since I could then get on with life! I hope that your #14 was your last!
