I am a 39 yo mother of three. I am 67 inches tall and weigh 235lbs.

I have Degenerative Disc Disease, hypertension and heart disease. It

is all well documented in my medical files. I have been battling with

my weight for about 10 years. I lose twenty...gain thirty. A few

months ago I went to a bariactric surgeon. I explained my constant

battle with my weight, my cronic back pain and swollen joints, my

hypertension etc. I asked for consideration for a gastric bypass.

He said I was 'not big enough to warrent surgery'. I am very

depressed. I don't know what else to do. I don't want to have to

put on another fifty pounds to qualify for surgery. That doctor

referred me to another surgeon who may do it. I have a consult with

him on the 27th. I can't hardly walk. I am in constant pain. My

Orthopedic surgeon said it will keep getting worse until I loose

weight. Any advice to help me prepare for my meeting on the 27th

would be appreciated.

Thanks :-)

Hi - Welcome to the group. This is just another example of how each

individual has their own breaking point on their weight and how much they can

handle. I do feel for you and your pain. I would tell this WLsurgeon about

your pain and comorbidities. Hopefully that will convince them. Good luck to

you.

No - I believe 67 " is 5' 7 " . 5 x 12 = 60, right? So, she is on the low

end, but with the comorbidities, that should help her to qualify. Don't know

about insurance coverage though.

This surgery is too risky to add pounds to have it done. If you are having a

problem with depression then perhaps you need to seek counseling with a

therapist.

But, again, take it from one who's had complications from this surgery, if the

surgeon is being honest about you not being a candidate for it based on your

bmi, then you have to respect that. IT HAS VERY BIG RISKS. But, talk to a

counselor and perhaps they've had patients they have made referrals to. Good

luck...
