Guest guest
ok friends, I know I've asked this before, but, here I go again. Pat and I have tickets from last year we couldn't use (airline). we have to book them by feb. 1--and we want to take a long week-end. just the two of us--that is not too expensive--our tickets are for $344 each, so we really don't want to waste them by not using what they are worth, but don't want to go over by too much either. our issue is we don't know where we want to go--don't really want to do an island or spend all day on a plane--any ideas? thanks a bunch!!! the boys are off to school--yea!! they were ready I think, and so was I--although I didn't want to get up this am hugs,

There are some nice ones in Arizona, Connecitucit., PA. I love the the beach - but you would have to go south far this time of year! Do you ski? Have family or friends out of state to visit? Can you use them to purchase your tickets for the CHARGE conference this summer? but the tickets now for July? Oh I could find lots to do w/them!!!!!! Guest guest
HI, IDEA 2004 - " These laws and regulations require school districts to provide a free and appropriate education to ALL students with disabilities who are in need of special education. A free appropriate public education means special education AND RELATED SERVICES DESIGNED TO MEET THE INDIVIDUAL EDUCATIONAL NEEDS OF YOUR CHILD provided, at no cost yo you , in conformity to your child's IEP. " You can initiate a compaint and due process if you feel you have not been givien your right to appropriate education. In the state of PA, if the child is not granted an IEP and the parent believes there is a need, they can take the matter to arbitration. This is in a procedural safeguard letter. If the family requests an evaluation for an IEP, it has to be done. My daughter has no special education needs but it was requested that she have a full IEP evaluation and we are now in the process of finishing an IEP for her based on her hearing impairment. It is not just for cognitive but also for Hearing/vision as well as BEHAVIORAL needs. " A child who has not yet been determined to be eligible for sp. ed. and related services and who has engaged in behavior that violates a code of child conduct, may be able to claim any of the disciplinary protections afforded the child already deemed to be eligible for sp. ed if the LEA had KNOWLEDGE that the child was a child with a DISABILITY (no mention of cognitive ablilities there!) before the behavior that resulted in the disciplinary action accured. " " The parent has the right to obtain an indepentdent educational evaluation of their child at public expense if the parent disagrees with and evauation obtained by a LEA(Local Education Agency-the school district) " This is in the safeguard notice. If the child has been evaluated by the school, they should have received this type of notice. I rarely read them but it is SO important. Look up the IDEA 2004 statute. The Bureau of Special Education's Consultline, A parent Helpline can be reached at 1-. This was listed on our Procedural Safeguards letter. All of the above safegaurds, again, are in PA. However, contact to 1- 800 number, look up IDEA and check your state's procedural safeguards. If it is NJ, and you have a copy and the other family does not, make a copy for them. If this is all based on IDEA, there must be some similarities through the federal guidelines. Guest guest
just wanted to say thank you to all who responded--I do understand the school side of it, but they seem to think that the parents don't try hard enough. I've seen and heard over the phone the " fights " to get him to school--I would say most if not all days are justified not going to school as " nicholas " days. it sometimes became VERY physical she has gotten kicked across the room--the drs. said do not let it get to a combative state--it won't do any good. all the meds they have tried have not worked he has very bad responses to them--often worse on meds than off. I just feel so bad for her and I have no answers other than talking to the ped. and advocate groups, so thanks for your repsonses--I have forwarded them to her.
